Description

Cobblestone is one of the first crafting materials a player obtains in Minecraft. It drops when stone is mined without a Silk Touch pickaxe and is the foundation of nearly every early-game tool, weapon, and structure. A wooden pickaxe is the minimum required to harvest it. Cobblestone is used to craft a stone pickaxe, stone sword, stone axe, stone shovel, hoe, and a furnace — the four-block kitchen appliance every Survival player needs. It can also be processed into mossy cobblestone, cobblestone walls, slabs, and stairs. Cobblestone generators (lava-meets-water mechanics) provide an unlimited renewable supply.

How to get and use Cobblestone in Minecraft

    Craft a wooden pickaxe

    Combine three planks and two sticks in the crafting grid to make a wooden pickaxe, the minimum tier that drops Cobblestone from stone.

    Mine stone underground

    Dig into any stone layer below the surface; each block breaks into one Cobblestone as long as the pickaxe lacks the Silk Touch enchantment.

    Craft a furnace

    Place eight Cobblestone around the edges of the crafting grid to build a furnace for smelting ores and cooking food.

    Upgrade to stone tools

    Use Cobblestone with sticks to craft a stone pickaxe, sword, axe, shovel, and hoe — faster and more durable than wooden gear.

    Build a Cobblestone generator

    Channel flowing lava into flowing water so they meet; the contact point produces Cobblestone repeatedly for an unlimited renewable supply.

Silk Touch tip

A pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch mines stone as Stone, not Cobblestone. Smelting Cobblestone in a furnace also turns it back into Stone.
