Description
Blackstone arrived with the Nether Update (1.16) and gave players the dark stone equivalent that vanilla had been missing for years. It generates in two main locations: as the floor and walls of basalt deltas — the Nether's volcanic chaos biome — and as the construction material of bastion remnants, the towering piglin fortresses scattered across the dimension.
A wooden pickaxe is the minimum required tool, and the block functions as a direct stand-in for cobblestone in every recipe: stone tools, stone weapons, furnaces, brewing stands, and stone slabs all accept blackstone with no recipe change. The dedicated family is extensive — a polished variant, polished bricks, chiseled polished version, gilded ore (a rare drop that produces gold), and the matching slabs, stairs, and walls — making the material a complete drop-in replacement for any grey stone palette.
