What is a seed in Minecraft?

A Minecraft seed is the number that determines how a world is generated. Two players who use the same seed and the same version get identical terrain, biomes, and structure positions. The Seed Map turns that seed into a visual map so you can scout a world before you create it.

Are the structure coordinates on the Seed Map accurate?

Yes. Structure positions in Minecraft depend only on the lower 48 bits of the world seed and the region they fall in, so the Seed Map computes them exactly the same way the game does. The X / Z coordinates in each marker popup match what you find in-game with the /locate command.

How do Java and Bedrock seeds differ?

Java Edition and Bedrock Edition place structures with different random-number generators, so the same seed produces different structure layouts in each edition. Overworld biomes match closely from version 1.18 onward, but structures, strongholds, and slime chunks are edition-specific. The Seed Map currently covers Java Edition; Bedrock support is in progress.

What are slime chunks and how do I find them?

Slime chunks are 16×16-block areas where slimes spawn naturally below Y=40, regardless of biome. Enable the Chunk Grid and the Slime Chunks layer on the Seed Map to see them highlighted in green — useful for planning a slime farm near your base.

How do I find a village or stronghold by seed?

Open the structures filter, keep Village or Stronghold enabled, and zoom out to scan a wide area. The Seed Map marks every matching structure; click a marker to copy its coordinates. For precise End-portal triangulation from in-game eyes of ender, use the AlaCraft Stronghold Finder.

Which Minecraft versions does the Seed Map support?

The Seed Map supports Java Edition from 1.7 through 1.21.4, including the Overworld, the Nether, and the End. Pick the version closest to your world in the version selector, because biome generation changed significantly in 1.18 and structure rules shifted across updates.
