What is the difference between Potion, Splash and Lingering potions?

Lingering potions create an area-effect cloud on the ground that lasts ~30 seconds. Tipped Arrows are crafted from a Lingering potion and 8 arrows. Ominous Bottles trigger raids when drunk.

How does CustomPotionColor work?

CustomPotionColor is an integer encoding RGB. Pick any color with the wheel and the generator outputs the right integer (Legacy NBT) or hex (Item Components 1.20.5+). The color overrides every effect-default tint while particles still match individual effects.

When should I use Item Components vs Legacy NBT?

Use Item Components for Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer — that's the modern format with [minecraft:potion_contents={...}]. Use Legacy NBT for 1.13–1.20.4 — it still uses the old Potion / CustomPotionEffects tags. The generator emits both so you can pick whichever matches your server.

Can I make potions with infinite duration?

Yes. In Item Components (1.20.5+) you can set duration to -1 (infinite). On Legacy NBT, the generator falls back to 1,000,000 ticks (~13.8 in-game hours) — Minecraft 1.13–1.20.4 doesn't support true infinite duration.

Will this generator work on Bedrock Edition?

Accepted Answer

Partially — the /give command syntax is Java Edition. Bedrock uses numeric effect IDs and a slightly different /give NBT structure. Most effect IDs match between editions, so the legacy ID list is a useful reference, but the exact commands are Java-only.
