Description

The Stone Hoe is a tier-2 farming tool in Minecraft, crafted from 2 cobblestone and 2 sticks — blackstone or cobbled deepslate works just as well. Players right-click the Stone Hoe on dirt, grass blocks, or dirt paths to convert each block into farmland, the only surface where wheat, carrots, potatoes, and beetroot will grow. Coarse dirt and rooted dirt turn into regular dirt first and need a second tilling, and tilling rooted dirt also drops hanging roots. The Stone Hoe has 131 durability in Java Edition and 132 in Bedrock Edition — more than double the Wooden Hoe's 59 uses — making it the cheapest reliable upgrade for early-game farms.

Beyond tilling, the Stone Hoe is the correct tool for breaking hoe-mineable blocks — hay bales, dried kelp blocks, target blocks, sponges, moss blocks, nether wart blocks, shroomlights, and leaves — mining them faster than by hand. The Stone Hoe accepts Efficiency, Unbreaking, Fortune, Silk Touch, and Mending enchantments, and is repaired by combining two hoes or adding cobblestone on an anvil. As a weapon the Stone Hoe is weak — 1 damage in Java Edition and 4 in Bedrock Edition — so it is built for farming rather than combat. Both editions share the same recipe and tilling behavior.
