Description

Rubber is a crafting material from IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental on Minecraft 1.12.2, used to insulate energy cables and build advanced machine parts. Players obtain Rubber by processing Sticky Resin, a sap that drops from Resin holes on the trunks of Rubber Trees when harvested with a Treetap. The IC2 Furnace recipe converts 1 Sticky Resin into 1 Rubber, while an IC2 Extractor produces 3 Rubber from the same input, tripling yield once electricity is available. Rubber is required for Insulated Copper Cable, Insulated Gold Cable and Insulated Tin Cable, which transfer EU safely without shocking nearby mobs and players. Rubber also feeds into Rubber Sheet, used in higher-tier electronic components and many IC2 addon recipes. Because Rubber is a stackable item rather than a placeable block, the AlaCraft index lists it under blocks for search convenience, but it cannot be placed in the world. Early-game players usually farm 4-8 Rubber Trees near spawn and use a Treetap to keep Sticky Resin renewable without cutting the tree down.

Guide

How to get and use Rubber in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Find Rubber Trees

Locate Rubber Trees in Swamp, Forest and Jungle biomes — their dark trunks display orange Resin holes that signal a Sticky Resin source.

  2. 2

Harvest Sticky Resin with a Treetap

Right-click each Resin hole with a Treetap to collect 1 Sticky Resin without cutting the tree, so the hole can refill over time.

  3. 3

    Smelt or extract

Place Sticky Resin in a Furnace for a 1:1 Rubber yield, or in an IC2 Extractor for 1 resin → 3 Rubber once you have EU power.

  4. 4

    Craft Insulated Cables

Combine 1 Rubber with bare Copper, Gold or Tin Cable in a crafting table to produce Insulated versions that transfer EU safely.

  5. 5

    Store and stack

Rubber stacks to 64 per slot, so keep a dedicated chest near your machine room for cable, Rubber Sheet and addon recipes.

Tip

Build a small Rubber Tree farm with 6-8 trees and rotate the Treetap between Resin holes — this keeps Sticky Resin renewable without chopping trunks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get Rubber in IC2 Experimental?

Harvest Sticky Resin from Rubber Tree Resin holes with a Treetap, then smelt it (1:1) or process it in an Extractor (1 resin → 3 Rubber).

Is the Extractor really worth it for Rubber?

Yes — the IC2 Extractor triples output, producing 3 Rubber per Sticky Resin instead of 1 in a furnace, which saves trees and time at industrial scale.

Can I place Rubber as a block?

No, Rubber is an item, not a placeable block; AlaCraft lists it in the blocks index for search, but you can only use it in crafting recipes.

What is Rubber used for?

Rubber insulates Copper, Gold and Tin Cables for safe EU transfer and is required for Rubber Sheet, machine parts and many IC2 addon recipes.

Does Sticky Resin run out?

No — Resin holes on Rubber Trees regenerate after some time when harvested with a Treetap, so Sticky Resin remains a renewable resource.
