Description

The 3xIns. HV Cable is the most heavily insulated high-voltage power line in IndustrialCraft 2, rated to carry packets of up to 2048 EU per tick (Extreme Voltage) across long distances. Three layers of rubber cover the iron core completely, so unlike the bare HV Cable the line is safe to touch — players and mobs take no electric shock damage on contact. The 3xIns. HV Cable still loses 0.8 EU per block like every HV Cable variant, because insulation protects against shocks rather than reducing energy loss. To craft it, combine a 2xIns. HV Cable with one Rubber in a shapeless crafting recipe; earlier layers are built up the same way, one Rubber at a time, starting from the plain HV Cable. Use the triple-insulated line for Extreme Voltage transmission routes that run through areas a player might walk past, keeping the network efficient at 2048 EU/t while avoiding the fatal shocks an exposed HV Cable would deliver.

IndustrialCraft 2 Guide

How to craft and use a 3xIns. HV Cable in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Make a plain HV Cable

Roll an Iron Plate through a Metal Former with a charged RE-Battery to produce the uninsulated HV Cable that forms the conductive core.

  2. 2

Add the first two rubber layers

Combine the HV Cable with Rubber twice in a shapeless crafting recipe, one Rubber per layer, to build the 2xIns. HV Cable.

  3. 3

    Apply the third insulation layer

Craft the 2xIns. HV Cable with one more Rubber to produce the finished 3xIns. HV Cable, fully safe to touch.

  4. 4

Lay the cable along the route

Place the 3xIns. HV Cable along your Extreme Voltage transmission line; the triple rubber layers prevent shock damage even on direct contact.

Insulation and energy loss

Insulation on HV Cables prevents electric shock and fires but does not change the 0.8 EU-per-block transmission loss shared by every HV Cable variant.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 3xIns. HV Cable lose less energy than an uninsulated HV Cable?

No. Every HV Cable variant loses 0.8 EU per block; the three rubber layers only prevent electric shock damage to players and mobs.

How much voltage can the 3xIns. HV Cable carry?

It tolerates High Voltage (512 EU/t) and Extreme Voltage (2048 EU/t) packets without melting, making it a tier-4 power line.

How do you craft the 3xIns. HV Cable?

Combine a 2xIns. HV Cable with one Rubber in a shapeless crafting recipe. Each lower insulation layer is added the same way, one Rubber at a time.

Can you touch a 3xIns. HV Cable without taking damage?

Yes. Three layers of rubber fully insulate the cable, so direct contact deals no electric shock damage to players or mobs.

Is the 3xIns. HV Cable renewable?

Yes. It is built from an iron-based core and Rubber, and Rubber is harvested renewably from Rubber Trees, so the whole cable is renewable.
