2xIns. Gold Cable — Minecraft block

2xIns. Gold Cable

2xIns. Gold Cable is the high-voltage power line of IndustrialCraft 2, carrying up to 512 EU per packet with only 0.4 EU lost per block and no shock damage to players.

Description

2xIns. Gold Cable is IndustrialCraft 2's double-insulated high-voltage wire, rated for Tier 3 (HV) energy packets of up to 512 EU each. A single block loses only 0.4 EU as a packet passes through, so a 10-block run sheds 4 EU — a modest price for one of the few cables rated for 512 EU packets. The build starts in a Metal Former, where extruding one Gold Ingot yields 4 Gold Cables; Rubber is then placed directly above the cable in the crafting grid — a shaped recipe — first for the single-insulated version, then again for the double layer. The result is a fully insulated conductor that carries the same 512 EU/p ceiling as a bare Gold Cable, but with the shock hazard removed.

Players use 2xIns. Gold Cable to wire HV solar arrays, MFSU batteries, and Tier 3 machines into a single safe network. Because IndustrialCraft 2 voltage tiers punish mistakes — an uninsulated HV line electrocutes anything that touches it — the double insulation is not cosmetic. A 2xIns. Gold Cable dropped on the floor beside a Metal Former or a Quarry will not kill a curious villager or a passing wolf. Stack the cable to 64 per slot, run it through walls and along ceilings, and pair it with HV Transformers to step 512 EU packets down to MV or LV before they reach consumer devices. The 0.4 EU/block loss means that a 20-block run sheds 8 EU of every 512 EU packet (about 1.5 percent), which is why long HV lines should stay short or be split with transformers.

How to craft and use 2xIns. Gold Cable in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

Craft the Insulated Gold Cable first

Craft the base Gold Cable in a Metal Former: extruding one Gold Ingot yields 4 Gold Cables, or cut one Gold Plate for 4. Rubber is added in the next step — it is not part of this recipe.

  2. 2

    Add the second insulation layer

Place one Rubber directly above the Insulated Gold Cable in the crafting grid — the recipe is shaped, the Rubber must sit above the cable. The output is one 2xIns. Gold Cable, ready for HV voltage.

  3. 3

Lay the HV line between source and consumer

Connect an MFSU, HV Solar Array, or HV Transformer output to a Tier 3 machine using a continuous run of 2xIns. Gold Cable. Each block in the line subtracts 0.4 EU from every 512 EU packet.

  4. 4

Step the voltage down at the destination

Place an HV Transformer at the end of the line and pull MV or LV output from it into consumer devices. This protects Tier 1 and Tier 2 machines from being overloaded by raw 512 EU packets.

  5. 5

Keep the run under ~20 blocks

Plan cable routes so the HV segment stays short. A 20-block run loses 8 EU of each 512 EU packet to the 0.4 EU/block loss, and throughput drops noticeably on longer lines.

Insulation is required for HV

An uninsulated or 1x-insulated Gold Cable will electrocute players, villagers, and mobs on contact at HV voltage. Only the 2xIns. Gold Cable variant is safe to handle while energized at 512 EU/packet.

Frequently asked questions

Can you craft 2xIns. Gold Cable in IndustrialCraft 2?

Yes. Place one Rubber directly above an Insulated Gold Cable in the crafting grid — a shaped recipe — to get one 2xIns. Gold Cable. You can also start from a bare Gold Cable and apply two Rubber in the same layout, one layer at a time.

How much EU can 2xIns. Gold Cable carry?

2xIns. Gold Cable is rated for Tier 3 (HV) and carries packets of up to 512 EU each. The insulation tier does not raise the packet ceiling — it only removes the shock hazard at that voltage.

How much EU does 2xIns. Gold Cable lose per block?

Each block of 2xIns. Gold Cable subtracts 0.4 EU from every packet that passes through. A 10-block run loses 4 EU per packet, and a 20-block run loses 8 EU, which is the practical limit for long HV lines.

Does 2xIns. Gold Cable shock the player?

No. The double insulation removes the shock damage that a bare or single-insulated Gold Cable deals at HV voltage. Players, villagers, and mobs can walk past or touch an energized 2xIns. Gold Cable without taking damage.

Is 2xIns. Gold Cable renewable?

Yes. Gold is renewable through piglin bartering and smelting, and Rubber is renewable through tapping Rubber Trees with a Treetap. Both inputs regenerate indefinitely, so 2xIns. Gold Cable can be crafted without limit.

Does 2xIns. Gold Cable exist in Bedrock Edition?

No. IndustrialCraft 2 is a Java Edition mod, so 2xIns. Gold Cable exists only on Java.
