Description

Insulated Tin Cable is a low-voltage power line from the Industrial Craft 2 mod that moves Energy Units (EU) between generators, storage, and machines. Tin Cable tolerates up to 32 EU per packet (Low Voltage) in current IC2 builds, and only 5 EU per packet (Ultra-Low Current) in older versions, so Insulated Tin Cable is the cheapest safe wire for linking basic sources such as a Generator, Solar Panel, Water Mill, or Wind Mill to a BatBox. The rubber insulation layer, pressed onto Tin Cable in a shapeless crafting recipe, lowers the small EU loss the wire already has (tin loses roughly one EU per packet every 40 blocks), stops the cable from shocking players and mobs that touch a live run, and lets a Painter dye the wire so adjacent colors do not connect. Insulated Tin Cable melts instantly if a packet larger than its 32 EU limit enters, so never hook it directly to Medium Voltage (128 EU) sources such as an MFE without a Transformer upgrade. For runs longer than a handful of blocks, Insulated Tin Cable stays the most material-efficient choice because tin ore is plentiful and each cable needs only one Rubber.

    Make a bare Tin Cable

    Run a Tin Plate through a Cutter (or use the wiki's plate recipe) to produce the uninsulated Tin Cable that forms the conductive core.

    Press on Rubber insulation

    Combine one Tin Cable with one Rubber in a shapeless crafting grid to craft Insulated Tin Cable, which cuts EU loss and removes shock damage.

    Connect a basic generator

    Run Insulated Tin Cable from a Generator, Solar Panel, Water Mill, or Wind Mill to a BatBox so each packet stays at or below the 32 EU Low Voltage limit.

    Keep packets under 32 EU

    Never wire Insulated Tin Cable straight to an MFE or other Medium Voltage (128 EU) source; the cable melts the instant an over-voltage packet enters.

Voltage limit

Insulated Tin Cable is Low Voltage only (32 EU per packet in current IC2, 5 EU per packet in older versions). Feeding it any larger packet destroys the cable instantly — step the voltage down with a Transformer first.
