Description

Wooden Gear is the entry-tier crafting component in Ala Industrial's gear progression, the first step on a ladder that later climbs through stone, iron, gold, and silver. It is a plain item with no energy cost — a shaped craft that turns four sticks and one wooden button into a single gear. Because sticks and buttons both come from any planks, Wooden Gear is fully renewable and cheap to produce in batches, which matters since it is consumed in volume rather than placed as a block.

Wooden Gear feeds two kinds of recipes. It is the central ingredient when crafting the Stone Gear, the next tier up, and it appears directly in several early-game machines — the Wind Mill and Water Mill generators, the Water Wheel, and the Stock Display Frame — as well as in the Guide Book itself. In other words, the Wooden Gear sits at the bottom of a small but busy crafting branch, so make a handful whenever you start a new base, because every generator and the next-tier gear will ask for more.

How to craft and use a Wooden Gear in Ala Industrial

    Gather the wood

    Chop any overworld tree and refine the logs into planks. Craft the planks into sticks and one wooden button — both ingredients come from the same wood.

    Craft the gear

    Place four sticks in a cross around one wooden button in a 3×3 crafting grid (button in the centre). The shaped recipe yields exactly one Wooden Gear per craft.

    Scale with a tree farm

    Every ingredient is plank-derived, so a tree farm produces Wooden Gear in unlimited quantities. Craft in batches: the gear is consumed in volume, not placed in the world.

    Press the metal gears

    Wooden Gear is the shared blank of the metal ladder: surround it with a cross of four matching materials — cobblestone (blackstone and cobbled deepslate also work), iron ingots, gold ingots, or silver ingots — to press the Stone, Iron, Gold, or Silver Gear. Hold a wooden gear plus the tier material to unlock each recipe in the recipe book.

    Spend Wooden Gear on early machinery: the Wind Turbine and its Wooden Rotor, the Water Mill with its Water Wheel, the Stock Display Frame, and the Guide Book.
