Water Wheel
Water Wheel is the durability component that slots into a Water Mill to enable EU generation, wearing out over about 320,000 EU of output.
Description
A Water Wheel is crafted on a 3×3 grid from early-game materials: four planks in the corners, two copper ingots across the top and bottom middle, two sticks on the sides, and one Wooden Gear in the center. All of these ingredients are available at the same stage as the Water Mill, so the Water Wheel is ready as soon as the player builds a first water generator. Water Wheel is the thematic counterpart to the Wooden Rotor used by wind generators, and keeping a spare crafted means a worn wheel can be swapped so the Water Mill keeps turning. The component works identically on Fabric and NeoForge.

How to use a Water Wheel in Minecraft
-
1
Craft the Water Wheel
Build a Water Wheel on a 3×3 grid with four planks in the corners, two copper ingots top and bottom, two sticks on the sides, and a Wooden Gear in the center.
-
2
Place the Water Mill
Set down a Water Mill so its wheel face points at flowing water, not a still source block, since only flowing water drives generation.
-
3
Insert the Water Wheel
Open the Water Mill GUI and put the Water Wheel into the dedicated wheel slot — without it the mill generates no EU at all.
-
4
Keep a spare ready
A Water Wheel lasts about 320,000 EU before it breaks, so craft a spare so you can swap a worn wheel without downtime.
The Water Wheel only loses durability while the Water Mill is actually generating EU, so it lasts much longer in real time at low output than at maximum output.

Frequently asked questions
Does a Water Mill work without a Water Wheel?
No. The Water Mill generates no EU at all until a Water Wheel is placed in its wheel slot.
How long does a Water Wheel last?
A full Water Wheel is worth about 320,000 EU, which is roughly six to seven in-game days at a typical 2 EU/t output.
How do you craft a Water Wheel?
Arrange four planks in the corners, two copper ingots top and bottom, two sticks on the sides, and a Wooden Gear in the center of a 3×3 grid.
Does the Water Wheel wear out when the Water Mill is idle?
No. The Water Wheel only loses durability while the Water Mill is actively producing EU, so idle time costs no durability.
Is the Water Wheel renewable?
No. The planks, sticks, and Wooden Gear come from wood, but the recipe also needs copper ingots, which are not renewable in Minecraft.
