Glass Pane
Glass Pane is a thin transparent panel one-eighth of a block wide — the slim alternative to glass blocks for windows and conservatories.
Description
Unlike full glass blocks, panes connect smoothly to each other and to other solid blocks: a row of Glass Panes automatically merges into a continuous fence-like strip, and the panes form perfect right angles at corners without breaking the visual line. Glass Pane can be dyed directly — eight panes around one dye give eight stained panes — and six stained glass blocks cut with the base recipe yield sixteen stained panes at once. As with regular glass, mining without Silk Touch destroys the pane completely; panes only stand vertically, and unlike full glass blocks Glass Pane is waterloggable — water shares its space without breaking the window.

How to craft and use Glass Pane in Minecraft
-
1
Craft sixteen panes
Place six glass blocks in two full horizontal rows on the crafting grid. The recipe outputs 16 Glass Pane blocks, which is more efficient than filling the same window area with full glass blocks.
-
2
Plan the window line
Place Glass Pane where a narrow connected strip is useful: window openings, greenhouse walls, shop fronts, interior dividers, balcony rails, or aquarium faces.
-
3
Use connection behavior
Glass Pane connects to adjacent panes and most solid blocks automatically. Build corners and frames one block at a time, because the connection shape updates as soon as a neighbor is placed.
-
4
Recover with Silk Touch
Break Glass Pane only with a Silk Touch tool when you need the block back. Mining Glass Pane without Silk Touch destroys the pane instead of dropping it.
Glass Pane takes dye directly: surround one dye with eight Glass Panes for eight stained panes. For bulk work, craft stained glass blocks first — the base 6-block recipe gives sixteen stained panes at once.

Can Glass Pane be recovered after mining?
Glass Pane drops itself only when mined with Silk Touch. Without Silk Touch, Glass Pane breaks without dropping an item.
Can Glass Pane be dyed directly?
Yes. Surround one dye with eight Glass Panes to get eight stained glass panes, or cut six stained glass blocks with the base recipe for sixteen stained panes.
What is Glass Pane best used for?
