Description
Glass is the simplest transparent block in Minecraft, produced by smelting one sand block in a furnace, blast furnace, or smoker. Both regular and red sand work as inputs and yield the same colourless output. The block lets light pass through without obstruction, which is why it is the standard material for windows, mob-proof skylights, and underwater observation rooms — water on one side stays liquid, air on the other stays breathable.
Glass is brittle. Mining it without the Silk Touch enchantment destroys the block entirely, so a Survival player who plans to relocate windows needs a Silk Touch pickaxe ready. Glass does not conduct redstone, never catches fire, and supports no mob spawning, which makes it useful for safe rooms and farm sealing. Six blocks arranged in two horizontal rows produce sixteen glass panes — the slimmer profile favoured by builders for greenhouse walls and decorative leaded windows.
