Sand
Sand falls without support and supplies the Glass, Sandstone, and Concrete Powder used in many Minecraft builds.
Description
Each Sand block smelts into one Glass block in a regular Furnace — the raw material for windows, bottles, panes, and transparent builds. Four Sand, four Gravel, and one Dye produce eight matching Concrete Powder blocks; Concrete Powder hardens when it contacts water. Four Sand also craft one Sandstone block; three Sandstone split into six Sandstone Slabs on the crafting grid, and a stonecutter turns one Sandstone into two Slabs. Builders shape beaches, dunes, and desert landscaping from Sand, but unsupported layers should never hang above important paths without a solid base.

Practical guide
How to collect and use Sand in Minecraft
-
1
Find a natural deposit
Search deserts, beaches, riverbanks, or shallow ocean floors because Sand cannot be crafted in normal survival.
-
2
Mine with a shovel
Use a shovel to collect Sand quickly, and avoid removing support beneath a tall column while standing below it.
-
3
Smelt Sand into Glass
Place Sand and fuel in a regular Furnace; each Sand block produces one Glass block.
-
4
Craft building materials
Use four Sand for one Sandstone, or combine four Sand, four Gravel, and one Dye for eight Concrete Powder.
Unsupported Sand falls and can suffocate entities, so secure ceilings, bridges, and decorative overhangs with solid blocks.
