How to make and use Yellow Dye in Minecraft
-
1
Gather dandelions or sunflowers
Pick dandelions in plains and grassy biomes, or harvest sunflowers from sunflower plains. Both flowers break instantly by hand.
-
2
Craft the yellow dye
Place one dandelion anywhere in the crafting grid for 1 yellow dye, or one sunflower for 2 yellow dye.
-
3
Apply the dye
Combine yellow dye with a dyeable item — wool, glass, concrete powder, a bed, banner, candle, or leather armor — in the grid, or use it directly on a sheep.
-
4
Make orange dye (optional)
Combine 1 yellow dye with 1 red dye to craft 2 orange dye when you need a warmer tone.
Before Java Edition 1.14 this item was named "Dandelion Yellow"; the recipe and uses are otherwise unchanged.

Frequently asked questions
How do you make Yellow Dye in Minecraft?
Place one dandelion in the crafting grid for 1 yellow dye, or one sunflower for 2 yellow dye.
Is Yellow Dye renewable?
Yes. Dandelions and sunflowers regrow naturally, and bonemeal can spawn more dandelions on grass, so yellow dye is fully renewable.
Can Yellow Dye make other colors?
Yes. Combining yellow dye with red dye produces 2 orange dye. Yellow itself is a primary dye and cannot be mixed from other colors.
What can you dye with Yellow Dye?
Wool, terracotta, glass, concrete powder, beds, banners, candles, Shulker boxes, leather armor, and wolf or cat collars.
Does Yellow Dye work in both Java and Bedrock?
Yes. Yellow dye and its recipes are identical in Java and Bedrock Edition since the dye system was unified in 1.14.
