Description

Magenta Dye is one of the 16 Minecraft dyes, recognizable by its bright pink-purple tone that sits between purple and pink on the color wheel. Players craft Magenta Dye in five ways: a single Allium yields one Magenta Dye, a Lilac yields two, combining Purple Dye with Pink Dye gives two, mixing Blue Dye, Red Dye, and Pink Dye produces three, and the cheapest bulk recipe — one Blue Dye, two Red Dye, and one White Dye — outputs four Magenta Dye at once. Allium grows in flower forest and meadow biomes, so Magenta Dye is renewable without any dye-mixing.

Magenta Dye colors wool, terracotta, stained glass, concrete powder, beds, banners, candles, and shulker boxes. In Bedrock Edition, Magenta Dye also tints leather armor. Builders favor Magenta Dye for vibrant accents and modern interiors where a loud pink-purple is needed. Applying Magenta Dye to a tamed wolf changes its collar color, and dyeing a sheep makes it drop magenta wool when sheared.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make Magenta Dye in Minecraft?

Craft Magenta Dye from a single Allium (1 dye) or a Lilac (2 dyes), or mix Purple Dye with Pink Dye, Blue+Red+Pink, or Blue+2 Red+White for up to 4 dyes.

Is Magenta Dye renewable?

Yes. Allium and Lilac regrow with bone meal in flower forest and meadow biomes, so Magenta Dye is fully renewable without trading.

What can you color with Magenta Dye?

Magenta Dye colors wool, terracotta, stained glass, concrete powder, beds, banners, candles, shulker boxes, wolf collars, and sheep.

Does Magenta Dye work in both Java and Bedrock?

Yes. Magenta Dye exists in both editions; Bedrock Edition additionally lets you dye leather armor and signs with it.
