Description

Allium spawns in flower forest and meadow biomes, making it one of the less common small flowers in the game compared to plains species. The plant presents as a single-block stem topped with a rounded cluster of small pink-purple florets, giving it a distinctive ball-like silhouette different from other flowers.

Breaking the block yields one allium item. Its sole dye use is crafting magenta dye: one allium in any slot of the crafting grid gives one magenta dye. Magenta dye can be used to color wool, terracotta, concrete powder, glass, shulker boxes, candles, beds, and leather armor, or mixed with other dyes to create related colors.

Like most small flowers, allium can be combined with a bowl, a red mushroom, and a brown mushroom to produce suspicious stew; this variant applies the fire resistance effect briefly. Bone meal applied on grass in a flower forest can cause it to spread alongside other biome-specific flowers. Bees pollinate it during foraging, and the item can be used in a composter.

Obtain & Use Guide

How to get and use Allium in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Find a flower forest

Travel to a flower forest biome — the only place allium spawns naturally on grass blocks alongside other flowers.

  2. 2

    Harvest the allium

Break the flower by hand or with any tool to collect one allium item; no special tool or Silk Touch is needed.

  3. 3

    Grow more with bone meal

Use bone meal on a grass block inside the flower forest to spread allium and other biome flowers for a renewable supply.

  4. 4

    Craft magenta dye

Place one allium in any slot of the crafting grid to produce one magenta dye for wool, terracotta, concrete, beds, and more.

  5. 5

    Cook suspicious stew

Combine a bowl, a red mushroom, a brown mushroom, and an allium to make suspicious stew that grants brief Fire Resistance.

Version note

One allium always crafts into a single magenta dye. A suspicious stew made with allium gives the Fire Resistance effect.
