Bone meal applied to a planted Lilac duplicates the flower, dropping an exact copy while the original keeps growing, which makes the supply renewable from a single bloom. Fire spreads onto the petals at flammability 60 in Java Edition and 30 in Bedrock Edition, so a stray lava patch can burn a whole garden. Java Edition 1.7.2 introduced the bloom, and Pocket Edition Alpha 0.9.0 brought it to Bedrock.

Cottage gardens, village pathways planters, and bee farms lean on Lilac for two-tall purple contrast, because bees pollinate the petals to raise honey levels and the bloom doubles as a breeding lure for the hive. The main crafting use turns one Lilac into two Magenta Dye on the crafting grid, a steady early-game source of magenta wool, terracotta, and banners. A composter accepts the bloom with a 65% chance to raise the compost level by one, turning surplus petals into bone meal for more farms. Flower pots reject the two-block stem, so builds that need tabletop decor must place the bloom in front of a fence or wall. Allium in plains is the only other renewable two-tall purple flower, but Lilac covers every forest biome and is easier to multiply.
