Description

Water Mill is an IndustrialCraft 2 generator that turns water into EU, the mod's standard energy unit. Craft two Water Mills from one Generator, four Oak Planks, and four Sticks on a vanilla crafting grid — planks fill the edge slots, sticks the corners, and the Generator sits in the center. The internal tank holds four water units, and a single unit delivers 1000 EU total. In manned mode, inserting a Water Bucket produces 1 EU/t, while unmanned mode emits 0.010 EU/t per adjacent water block, peaking near 0.25 EU/t when ringed by 25 water blocks in a 3x3x3 cube.

A single Water Mill on a riverbank delivers a steady trickle of EU for free once a water source is placed next to it, making the block a fully renewable energy source. Players typically chain several Water Mills through low-voltage copper cable into a BatBox or MFE to charge batteries, power a Macerator, or run an Electric Furnace. For maximum unmanned output, place each Water Mill one block above a flowing-water layer so five or six sides touch water, and never bury the generator underground where adjacent slots are dry — without water on at least one face the machine produces nothing.

IndustrialCraft 2 Guide

How to set up a Water Mill in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Craft the Water Mill

Place one Generator in the center of a crafting grid, four Oak Planks in the edge slots, and four Sticks in the corners to produce two Water Mills.

  2. 2

    Surround the block with water

Set the Water Mill so at least one face touches a water source block; each adjacent water block adds 0.010 EU/t in unmanned mode.

  3. 3

Run cable to a storage unit

Connect the Water Mill output dot to low-voltage copper cable leading into a BatBox, which buffers the slow trickle of EU.

  4. 4

    Scale with multiple mills

Cluster several Water Mills around a shared water pool and wire them in parallel to push combined EU into a single BatBox or MFE.

Manned mode

Insert a Water Bucket directly into the Water Mill to run it at 1 EU/t without nearby water; each bucket yields 1000 EU and the empty bucket is returned.

Frequently asked questions

How much EU does a Water Mill produce?

An unmanned Water Mill emits 0.010 EU/t per adjacent water block, up to about 0.25 EU/t. A manned Water Mill with a Water Bucket produces 1 EU/t and yields 1000 EU per bucket.

How do you craft a Water Mill in IndustrialCraft 2?

Surround one Generator with four Oak Planks in the edge slots and four Sticks in the corners of a crafting grid. The recipe yields two Water Mills.

Is the Water Mill renewable?

Yes. Water Mill is built from a Generator, Oak Planks, and Sticks, all of which are renewable, so the block is a renewable energy source.

How should a Water Mill be placed for maximum output?

Set the Water Mill one block above a flowing-water layer so as many faces as possible touch water. A 3x3x3 cube of water around the block reaches the practical ceiling of about 0.25 EU/t.
