Solar Panel

Solar Panel generates 1 EU/t (IndustrialCraft 2 energy per game tick) from daylight and stops producing at night, in storms, and underground — the silent rooftop generator.

Description

Solar Panel is the entry-level IndustrialCraft 2 generator that turns sunlight into electricity at 1 EU/t (the mod's energy unit, paid out every game tick) during daylight hours from 6:20 to 17:45 — about 13,050 EU per full game day. The crafting recipe combines three Coal, three Glass, two Electronic Circuits, and one Generator on a crafting table. Solar Panel needs a direct view of the sky: a Glass block overhead does not stop generation, but caves, the Nether, and the End drop the output to zero, and Solar Panel shuts down completely at night. Rain and thunderstorms reduce energy production, the internal buffer is 0 EU — every generated tick flows straight into cable or storage, and power exits from every side except the top.

In practice, Solar Panel farms scale horizontally: players feed Solar Panel output into a BatBox over Copper Cable runs of four segments or fewer, while Tin Cable carries the small 1 EU/t current up to 40 blocks without loss. A single Solar Panel also crafts into a Solar Helmet, which recharges the electronic chestpiece worn by a player standing in direct daylight. One Solar Panel is weak alone, so mid-game bases cover rooftops with whole fields of Solar Panels and gain total silence with zero fuel cost. As a first IndustrialCraft 2 power source, Solar Panel beats fuel-burning Generator farms in any biome with long clear days.

Guide

How to Craft and Set Up a Solar Panel in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Craft the recipe

Place three Coal, three Glass, two Electronic Circuits, and one Generator on a crafting table to produce one Solar Panel.

  2. 2

    Find open sky

Set the Solar Panel where only air or Glass lies overhead — caves, the Nether, and the End give 0 EU/t, and Solar Panel stops at night.

  3. 3

    Wire the output

Connect any side except the top: Tin Cable carries the 1 EU/t solar current up to 40 blocks without loss, and Copper Cable runs stay lossless up to four segments.

  4. 4

    Buffer for the night

Feed a BatBox or another energy storage so machines keep running after sunset, because Solar Panel holds 0 EU internally.

Weather matters

Rain and thunderstorms cut Solar Panel output, so bases in desert and savanna biomes with long clear days get the most from Solar Panel farms.

Frequently asked questions

How much EU does one Solar Panel produce per day?

Solar Panel produces 1 EU/t during daylight from 6:20 to 17:45, roughly 13,050 EU per full game day and zero at night.

Why has my Solar Panel stopped generating EU?

Solar Panel needs a direct view of the sky: night, rain, thunderstorms, caves, the Nether, and the End stop or cut output, while Glass overhead keeps Solar Panel running.

Which side of Solar Panel outputs energy?

Solar Panel pushes EU from every side except the top, and the internal storage is 0 EU — connect a BatBox or cable directly to the Solar Panel.

What does Solar Panel craft into?

One Solar Panel plus iron crafts into the Solar Helmet, which recharges an electronic chestpiece in direct daylight.

How do I cut cable loss in a Solar Panel farm?

Keep Copper Cable runs to four segments or fewer, or switch to Tin Cable, which carries the small 1 EU/t solar current up to 40 blocks without loss.
