Description

Coal in IndustrialCraft 2 is the entry-point fuel and carbon source for the entire IC2 industrial chain. The item feeds the IC2 Generator, where one piece burns to produce Energy Units (EU) used to power machines and charge low-tier batteries. Placed in a Macerator, one piece yields one Coal Dust, the building block of IC2's most famous progression recipe. Combine 8 dust with 1 Flint to craft a Coal Ball. Compressing the ball produces a Compressed Coal Ball. Crafting 8 of these compressed balls around 1 Obsidian, Bricks, or Block of Iron yields a Coal Chunk. Compressing that chunk yields a Diamond — the old separate Industrial Diamond item is deprecated and identical to a vanilla Diamond, making this IC2's renewable, craftable diamond route for advanced machine and tool recipes. Coal also stacks naturally with vanilla recipes such as Torches and standard furnace fuel, so the IC2 mod treats it as a dual-purpose resource: vanilla utility plus industrial input.
