Description

Coal Fuel is the high-energy product of IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental's coal-to-fuel pipeline for Minecraft 1.12.2. Players typically refer to it as Coalfuel and to its container as a Coalfuel Cell, the bottled output of running Coal Cells (hydrated coal cells) through a powered Extractor. Once you have Coalfuel Cells, you load six of them into a Fuel Can using a Canning Machine; that filled Fuel Can then burns inside a Generator and yields roughly 76,440 EU per can, far more than the same coal would produce if burned directly. Alternatively the fluid form can be used in a Semifluid Generator, which is designed specifically to consume Coalfuel and similar liquid fuels. Coal Fuel is therefore the energy payoff at the end of the coal cell chain: cell production lives in the Canning Machine, conversion lives in the Extractor, and energy capture lives in a Generator. Because IC2 Experimental periodically reshapes this chain, always consult JEI in your specific 1.12.2 build before locking in a layout, and over-provision empty cells so the line never stalls waiting for containers.

IC2 Guide

How to use Coal Fuel in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Produce Coal Cells

Pack hydrated coal dust into empty cells using the Canning Machine to obtain Coal Cells (H. Coal Cells) as the input for Coalfuel.

  2. 2

    Extract into Coalfuel Cells

Run the Coal Cells through a powered Extractor; each one becomes a Coalfuel Cell, the bottled form of Coal Fuel.

  3. 3

    Fill a Fuel Can

Load six Coalfuel Cells into an Empty Fuel Can with the Canning Machine to assemble a full Fuel Can ready to burn.

  4. 4

    Burn in a Generator

Place the Fuel Can into a Generator. The full can yields roughly 76,440 EU before becoming empty again.

  5. 5

    Or use a Semifluid Generator

Alternatively pipe liquid Coalfuel into a Semifluid Generator, which is designed to consume Coalfuel directly as a fluid.

IC2 Experimental

Coal Fuel mechanics have changed between IC2 Experimental builds on 1.12.2. Always confirm the current recipe and EU value inside JEI before scaling up your fuel line.

Frequently asked questions

What is Coal Fuel in IC2?

Coal Fuel, usually called Coalfuel, is the high-energy fuel produced by extracting hydrated Coal Cells in IC2 Experimental.

How much energy does a full Fuel Can give?

A Fuel Can filled with six Coalfuel Cells produces approximately 76,440 EU when burned in a standard Generator.

Where can I burn Coal Fuel?

In a Generator using a filled Fuel Can, or directly as a fluid in a Semifluid Generator, which is built to consume Coalfuel-type liquids.

Is the Coal Fuel chain stable on 1.12.2?

The chain has been reworked across IC2 Experimental versions. On many 1.12.2 builds it still works as described, but always confirm via JEI.
