Description

The Kinetic Water Generator (also known as the Water Turbine) is an Industrial Craft 2 generator that produces Kinetic Units from the movement of water. The Kinetic Water Generator only runs in river, ocean, and deep ocean biomes; placement in any other biome triggers the alert "must be placed in a river or ocean biome". An Iron Rotor, Steel Rotor, or Carbon Rotor turns inside the Kinetic Water Generator, while a Wooden Rotor does not work at all. The rotor must sit entirely under water, because a partly dry rotor makes the Kinetic Water Generator show the alert "no room for the rotor".

Crafting on a crafting table takes one Machine and Iron Shafts: two Iron Shafts beside the Machine or four Iron Shafts around the Machine each yield one Kinetic Water Generator. A wrench is the proper tool for dismantling the Kinetic Water Generator. Industrial Craft 2 Experimental build #750 removed the old Water Mill recipe in favour of the Kinetic Water Generator. When the Kinetic Water Generator refuses to run, read the two alerts first: the biome message and the rotor message show whether the location or the water level is at fault, before any rotor replacement.

Guide

How to Use the Kinetic Water Generator in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft the Kinetic Water Generator

Combine one Machine with two Iron Shafts on a crafting table; an alternate recipe accepts four Iron Shafts around one Machine. Either layout gives one Kinetic Water Generator.

  2. 2

Place the generator in a water biome

Set the Kinetic Water Generator inside a river, ocean, or deep ocean biome. Any other biome makes the machine show the alert "must be placed in a river or ocean biome".

  3. 3

Install an iron, steel, or carbon rotor

Put an Iron Rotor, Steel Rotor, or Carbon Rotor into the Kinetic Water Generator. A Wooden Rotor does not work in the Kinetic Water Generator.

  4. 4

    Submerge the rotor fully

Keep the rotor of the Kinetic Water Generator entirely under water. A rotor that sticks out makes the machine report "no room for the rotor".

Wrench and history

A wrench dismantles the Kinetic Water Generator properly, and Industrial Craft 2 Experimental build #750 retired the old Water Mill recipe in favour of the Kinetic Water Generator.

Frequently asked questions

Which biomes does the Kinetic Water Generator need?

The Kinetic Water Generator runs only in river, ocean, and deep ocean biomes. Outside these biomes the machine reports "must be placed in a river or ocean biome".

Why does the Kinetic Water Generator say "no room for the rotor"?

The alert means the rotor is not entirely submerged in water. Water must cover the rotor of the Kinetic Water Generator on every side.

Can a Wooden Rotor drive the Kinetic Water Generator?

No. The Kinetic Water Generator accepts only an Iron Rotor, Steel Rotor, or Carbon Rotor, and a Wooden Rotor does not work.

Is the Water Turbine a different machine?

No, Water Turbine is simply the second name of the Kinetic Water Generator in Industrial Craft 2.

What did the Kinetic Water Generator replace?

Industrial Craft 2 Experimental build #750 removed the old Water Mill recipe in favour of the Kinetic Water Generator.
