Description

The Compressor is the entry-level Industrial Craft 2 machine that compacts raw materials into refined crafting components. The recipe takes six Stone, one Machine Block, and one Electronic Circuit on a standard crafting grid. The Compressor runs on low-voltage power, draws 2 EU per tick (EU is Industrial Craft 2's energy unit, and one tick equals 1/20 of a second), accepts up to 32 EU per tick, and stores 800 EU internally. Each compression cycle costs 800 EU and finishes in roughly 20 seconds. The Compressor accepts the input material in the upper slot of the machine interface, and a connected power supply does the rest.

The Compressor produces components no crafting grid can make — Advanced Alloy, Carbon Plate, and dense metal plates — and offers quick conversions such as Sandstone from Sand, Nether Brick from Netherrack, and a Diamond from one Coal Chunk. Snowballs and ice blocks round out the output list. Beyond finished items, the Compressor handles intermediate stages of many Industrial Craft 2 recipes, and the Compressor itself becomes an ingredient: the Recycler is assembled from one Compressor. Keep a Compressor next to any production line that needs pressed components, because Advanced Alloy and Carbon Plate recur across Industrial Craft 2 recipes.

Guide

Compressor: crafting and first compression runs

  1. 1

    Craft the Compressor

Combine six Stone, one Machine Block, and one Electronic Circuit on the crafting grid to produce one Compressor.

  2. 2

    Place and connect power

Set the Compressor down in the workshop and connect a low-voltage cable — the Compressor accepts up to 32 EU per tick and buffers 800 EU.

  3. 3

    Load the upper slot

Open the Compressor interface and place the material to press in the upper slot; one cycle costs 800 EU at 2 EU per tick and takes about 20 seconds.

  4. 4

    Pick the first targets

Start with one Coal Chunk for a Diamond, then press Sand into Sandstone and Netherrack into Nether Brick while the power supply recharges the buffer.

Wrench and follow-up machines

The official wiki lists the Bronze Wrench as the Compressor's tool, so keep a wrench ready before relocating the Compressor. The Recycler recipe also consumes one Compressor, so plan a second unit for scrap production.

Frequently asked questions

How much energy does one Compressor operation need?

One Compressor operation costs 800 EU. The Compressor draws 2 EU per tick while working, so a single cycle finishes in roughly 20 seconds, and the internal buffer holds 800 EU.

What is the Compressor recipe in Industrial Craft 2?

Six Stone, one Machine Block, and one Electronic Circuit on a crafting grid produce one Compressor.

Which power tier does the Compressor accept?

The Compressor runs on low voltage and accepts up to 32 EU per tick through connected cables.

Can the Compressor craft a Diamond?

Yes. Pressing one Coal Chunk in the Compressor yields one Diamond — the classic Industrial Craft 2 route to industrial diamonds.

Do other machines need a Compressor to build?

The Recycler recipe includes one Compressor, which makes the Recycler the only recipe in the catalog that uses the Compressor as an ingredient.
