Description

Batpack is the entry-level wearable battery from IndustrialCraft 2 (IC2). It occupies the chestplate armor slot in Minecraft and acts as a portable energy reservoir of 60,000 EU at Tier 1. While worn, the Batpack automatically passes EU into any compatible low-tier electric tool held in your hotbar, refilling devices such as the Mining Drill, Electric Wrench, Electric Treetap or RE-Battery on the fly. This removes the constant need to walk back to a Batbox between mining runs. Charging the Batpack itself is done in a Batbox, MFE, MFSU, Generator or any IC2 charging slot; like all IC2 armor it will not accept higher voltage classes than its Tier 1 rating, so route only Low Voltage (32 EU/t) to it to avoid damage. Because it occupies the chestplate slot, you cannot wear a Diamond Chestplate at the same time, which is an intentional trade-off — survivability for portable power. The Batpack does not run out of durability in the classic sense but is destroyed if drained beyond zero through cheats or bugs; under normal use it lasts indefinitely. Players usually upgrade to the Advanced Batpack and later the Lappack as they unlock higher-voltage power, but the basic Batpack remains the cheapest mobile EU buffer for early IC2 progression.

Field Guide

How to use the Batpack in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Acquire the recipe materials

Prepare rubber, RE-Batteries and insulated tin cable to craft the Batpack at a Crafting Table using the IC2 recipe.

  2. 2

    Equip the Batpack

Put the Batpack in the chestplate armor slot; this replaces any vanilla chestplate for the duration.

  3. 3

Carry a Tier 1 electric tool

Keep a compatible low-tier device like the Mining Drill or Electric Treetap somewhere in your hotbar so the Batpack can charge it.

  4. 4

    Use tools normally

Mine, harvest or wrench as usual; the Batpack continuously transfers EU into the active tool until either tool or pack is empty.

  5. 5

    Recharge the Batpack

Right-click the Batpack into a Batbox, MFE, MFSU or any Tier 1 charging slot — never feed it Medium or High Voltage.

Voltage warning

The Batpack is a Tier 1 device. Hooking it directly to Medium Voltage (128 EU/t) or higher will destroy it. Use a Transformer to step down power if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How much energy does the Batpack store?

60,000 EU at Tier 1, which is roughly the same as six fully charged RE-Batteries.

Does the Batpack charge tools in my inventory too?

No. It only charges compatible electric tools located in the hotbar, not in the main inventory.

Can I wear Diamond armor and the Batpack at the same time?

Not in the same slot. The Batpack occupies the chestplate slot, so it replaces a vanilla chestplate; helmet, leggings and boots stay free.

What happens if I feed it Medium Voltage?

Tier 1 devices explode or are destroyed when fed Medium Voltage (128 EU/t) or higher. Always use a Batbox or a step-down Transformer.

Is the Batpack better than just carrying RE-Batteries?

Yes for long mining trips, because the Batpack auto-recharges hotbar tools without manual swapping, saving an inventory slot and time.
