Solar Evolution Chip is consumed during the upgrade, but the accumulated charge stored inside the base block carries over to the evolved T2 block, so no EU is lost. A daylight T2 panel still produces 0 EU/t in rain or thunder and the same 8000 EU buffer as the T1 base, so the chip only widens the clear-sky daytime ceiling rather than changing the weather rules. Players usually craft the chip after a first Nether trip for glowstone and deep-cave mining for lapis-grade ores, because nickel plus glowstone is the moderate early gate that opens the T2 era of solar and wind generation.
