Description

Trellis is a two-block-tall support for climbing plants in Ala Industrial, and cotton is the first crop that grows on it. Place the trellis on tilled, moist farmland, then right-click it with cotton seeds to start the plant. Cotton is the farming answer to hunting spiders for string: fibre comes from a field, not from mobs. The name is deliberately generic, because the support is built for future climbing crops as well.

The plant grows in two phases. Rooting is the long phase, and it happens only once in the plant's lifetime as the cotton slowly climbs both blocks. Fruiting is a short cycle that repeats forever: the bush fills with bolls, a right-click harvests 1–2 cotton fibre with a 35% chance of cotton seeds, and the bush then fills again. Harvesting never destroys the plant — patience is the price of establishing it, not of every harvest. If the soil dries or the light drops, growth pauses without losing any progress, and bone meal advances exactly one stage per use.

How to grow cotton on a Trellis in Ala Industrial

  1. 1

    Craft the trellis

Combine four sticks and two string in a crafting grid to make one trellis, the two-block-tall support for climbing plants.

  2. 2

    Place it on moist farmland

Set the trellis on tilled soil next to water, the same farmland that supports vanilla crops.

  3. 3

    Plant cotton seeds

Right-click the trellis with cotton seeds to start the rooting phase, the only slow phase in the plant's life.

  4. 4

    Wait for the first harvest

Cotton roots once and then fruits forever, so patience up front pays for every later harvest.

  5. 5

    Harvest by right-click

Right-click the ripe bush to take 1–2 cotton fibre with a 35% chance of seeds; the bush stays and fills again, never destroyed.

Growth pauses, not resets

If the soil dries out or the light drops, growth pauses on the current stage without losing progress, and bone meal advances exactly one stage per use.

Frequently asked questions

Can you craft a Trellis in Ala Industrial?

Yes. Four sticks and two string in a crafting grid yield one trellis, the support for climbing plants like cotton.

What crop grows on the Trellis?

Cotton is the first crop that grows on the trellis, producing 1–2 cotton fibre per harvest with a 35% chance of cotton seeds.

Does harvesting destroy the cotton plant?

No. Right-clicking a ripe bush takes the cotton fibre and returns the bush to its grown state, so the plant survives every harvest.

What happens to the plant if the farmland dries out?

Growth pauses on the current stage without losing progress; the plant never dies and never reverts to a seed. Restoring water resumes growth.

Does bone meal instantly grow the cotton?

No. Bone meal advances exactly one growth stage per use, so it cannot turn a bare trellis into a ripe bush on the spot.

Where do you get the first cotton seeds?

Cotton seeds drop with a 5% chance when you break tall or short grass, like wheat seeds, and later harvests also return seeds.
