Description

Sulfur Dust is the ground form of raw sulfur in Ala Industrial and the only industrial form sulfur takes: sulfur is a non-metal, so there is no ingot to smelt the dust into. The Macerator turns one raw sulfur, one sulfur ore, or one deepslate sulfur ore into two Sulfur Dust for 300 EU per pass, while a regular furnace smelts one raw sulfur into a single dust in 200 ticks with 0.7 XP — a machine-free route that skips the doubling. Sulfur ore generates in the Overworld between Y −32 and 32, is rarer than tin but more common than silver, and is the only primary source: the Distillation Column produces no sulfur, and Sulfur Dust is deliberately excluded from Incubator duplication recipes, so the dust supply is capped by how much ore you mine.

The single purpose of Sulfur Dust is rubber. One Vulcanizer batch consumes one raw rubber with four Sulfur Dust and 400 EU, and the heat level of the cycle sets the output at one, two, or three rubber without changing the sulfur cost. Rubber gates the early power grid — a typical run of 16 insulated cables costs 8 rubber, which is 32, 16, or 12 Sulfur Dust depending on Vulcanizer heat. Since four dust cost two Macerator passes (600 EU on top of the batch), sulfur is the most expensive input of the rubber chain in both material and energy, which is why covering the heat with a campfire or an Electric Heater matters more than mining faster.

Ala Industrial Guide

How to get and use Sulfur Dust in Ala Industrial

  1. 1

    Mine sulfur ore

Find sulfur ore in the Overworld between Y −32 and 32, most often near the middle of the range, and mine it with a stone pickaxe or better to drop raw sulfur.

  2. 2

    Macerate for 2× dust

Feed raw sulfur, sulfur ore, or deepslate sulfur ore into the Macerator: each pass costs 300 EU and produces two Sulfur Dust.

  3. 3

    Or smelt one dust

Without a Macerator, a regular furnace smelts one raw sulfur into one Sulfur Dust in 200 ticks with 0.7 XP — machine-free, but without the doubling.

  4. 4

    Vulcanize rubber

Combine one raw rubber with four Sulfur Dust in the Vulcanizer: a batch costs 400 EU, and the heat level sets the output at one to three rubber.

No ingot, no duplication

Sulfur Dust is sulfur's final form in Ala Industrial — there is no ingot, and the dust is excluded from Incubator duplication recipes, so mined ore is the only source.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get Sulfur Dust in Ala Industrial?

Macerate raw sulfur or sulfur ore in the Macerator: one input gives two dust for 300 EU. A furnace also smelts one raw sulfur into one dust in 200 ticks with 0.7 XP.

Does a furnace double sulfur like the Macerator?

No. A furnace smelts one raw sulfur into one Sulfur Dust; only the Macerator doubles the yield to two dust per input for 300 EU.

What is Sulfur Dust used for?

Vulcanizing rubber. One Vulcanizer batch consumes four Sulfur Dust with one raw rubber and 400 EU, and the heat level sets the output at one to three rubber.

Is there a sulfur ingot in Ala Industrial?

No. Sulfur is a non-metal, so Sulfur Dust is the final technological form — there is nothing to smelt the dust into.

Is Sulfur Dust renewable?

No. Sulfur ore is finite world generation, Ala Industrial offers no sulfur trade, and Sulfur Dust is excluded from Incubator duplication recipes.
