Description

Slag is the everyday middle grade of the three slag briquettes in the Ala Industrial tech mod. The LV-tier Recycler grinds any junk — stone, dirt, worn tools, planks — and casts one briquette each time the batch gathers 64 units of mass, about 16 ordinary blocks, while drawing 8 EU/t at 40 ticks per item. The grade depends on how varied the batch is, never on how big: one fraction holding 80% or more of the mass pays Poor Slag, all three fractions present with none over half pay Rich Slag, and two fractions in workable proportion pay plain Slag. Ala Industrial runs only on Minecraft 26.2 Java Edition, on both Fabric and NeoForge.

Slag feeds exactly one machine, and that machine stays busy: the LV Alloy Smelter fires 2 Slag together with 2 Double Carbon Rods into 1 Carbon Briquette for 1200 EU over 150 ticks. The grade only changes how much of it the firing eats — Poor Slag takes four pieces, Rich Slag takes one — so sorting junk before it reaches the Recycler makes the carbon chain cheaper. Mix mineral waste with scrap metal or burnables and keep the ash bin below three quarters full, and one chest of rubble turns into a steady stream of briquettes. The Recycler destroys everything it is fed, valuables included, so keep diamonds out of its pipes.

Guide

How to get Slag and turn it into a Carbon Briquette

  1. 1

    Build the Recycler line

Place the LV Recycler, fit a set of grinding blades, and wire it to feed 8 EU/t — the internal buffer holds 800 EU.

  2. 2

    Feed the machine two fractions

Load cobblestone together with planks or worn tools so that no single fraction reaches 80% of the batch mass.

  3. 3

Fill the batch to 64 mass

Grind until the gauge reads 64 of 64 — about 16 blocks or 8 tools — and take the Slag briquette from the output slot.

  4. 4

Fire the briquette in the Alloy Smelter

Combine 2 Slag with 2 Double Carbon Rods in the Alloy Smelter; 1200 EU later one Carbon Briquette drops out.

Watch what the pipes feed in

The Recycler has no filter and grinds valuables as happily as rubble, and a full ash bin stops the machine — a hopper underneath empties the bin on its own.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get Slag?

The Recycler casts one Slag briquette each time a batch reaches 64 units of mass, which is roughly 16 blocks or 8 worn tools fed through the machine.

What is the difference between Slag, Poor Slag and Rich Slag?

The grade comes from batch variety, not size. One fraction at 80% or more pays Poor Slag, two balanced fractions pay Slag, and all three present with none over half pay Rich Slag.

What is Slag used for?

The Alloy Smelter fires 2 Slag and 2 Double Carbon Rods into 1 Carbon Briquette at 1200 EU; poor and rich briquettes work in the same recipe, just four or one pieces instead.

Is Slag the same item as Irradiated Slag?

No. Irradiated Slag is what the Incubator leaves when a mutation roll fails, while plain Slag comes only from the Recycler batch casting.

How much energy does one Slag briquette cost?

Grinding a full 64-mass batch with iron blades draws about 5120 EU at 8 EU/t, and the later firing in the Alloy Smelter adds another 1200 EU.
