Description

Tempered Iron Scythe is the sixth of the eight material tiers in Ala Industrial's scythe line for Minecraft 26.2 (Java Edition): one right-click mows a flat 5×4 patch, cutting up to 40 plants per swing. Tempered Iron Scythe is built on the mod's own blast-hardened iron material, so the durability bar holds 350 points — 40% more than the iron scythe — and every actually broken plant costs exactly one point: grass wears the tool down the same as leaves. A plain right-click clears decorative foliage such as leaves, grass, flowers, ferns, mushrooms, vines and saplings, and each block drops its normal hand-broken loot, so Fortune and Silk Touch both apply. Holding Shift switches Tempered Iron Scythe into harvest mode: only mature crops are cut — wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot and ripe sweet berry bushes, plus cactus and sugar cane above their base — while unripe seedlings keep growing.

Tempered Iron Scythe is crafted at a workbench from three tempered iron and two sticks in a custom shape unlike the vanilla hoe; one ingot comes from blasting one iron ingot, so iron farms keep the tool renewable. In harvest mode, every cut of a true crop — wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot or the torchflower crop — has an 18% chance to drop one bonus seed, a roll independent of Fortune that stacks on top of it. Tempered Iron Scythe catches enchantments better than iron (enchantability 16 against 14) and accepts Efficiency, Unbreaking, Fortune, Silk Touch and Mending at the enchanting table. Tempered Iron Scythe draws no EU power, sits outside Ala Industrial's energy tiers, works identically on Fabric and NeoForge, and repairs with tempered iron at an anvil. It slots between the fragile-but-lucky Gold Scythe (5×3, 32 durability, 20% seeds) and the Diamond Scythe (5×5, 50 blocks per swing).

How to use the Tempered Iron Scythe in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft the Tempered Iron Scythe

Combine three tempered iron ingots and two sticks at a workbench in the custom scythe shape: two ingots across the top row, a stick and an ingot in the middle row, and one stick directly below that stick. Blast one iron ingot to make one tempered iron, and the recipe appears in the recipe book as soon as you pick the material up.

  2. 2

Mow foliage with a plain right-click

Right-click a plant from the main hand and Tempered Iron Scythe clears a flat 5×4 area three blocks tall of leaves, grass, flowers, ferns, mushrooms, vines and saplings. Every block drops its normal loot, exactly as if broken by hand.

  3. 3

    Harvest crops with Shift held

Hold Shift and right-click to switch Tempered Iron Scythe into harvest mode. Only fully mature crops are cut — wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot and ripe sweet berry bushes, plus cactus and sugar cane above their base — so unripe seedlings and melon or pumpkin stems are left untouched.

  4. 4

Enchant Tempered Iron Scythe like a hoe

Tempered Iron Scythe takes Efficiency, Unbreaking, Fortune, Silk Touch and Mending at the enchanting table and anvil, and its enchantability of 16 outdoes iron's 14. Fortune boosts the main drop while the 18% bonus-seed roll stacks on top of it, and Mending can refill the durability bar with collected XP.

  5. 5

    Watch the durability bar

Each of the 350 durability points covers one actually broken plant, and short grass wears the tool exactly like leaves. When Tempered Iron Scythe runs low, repair it with tempered iron at an anvil.

Tempered Iron Scythe limits

Tempered Iron Scythe is a hand tool with no EU power draw and is not fire-resistant — only the Netherite Scythe is. The 40-block cap per swing always applies, with blocks nearest to the click broken first.

Frequently asked questions

How do you craft the Tempered Iron Scythe in Ala Industrial?

Place three tempered iron ingots and two sticks in the custom scythe shape at a workbench — two ingots on top, a stick and an ingot in the middle row, one stick below. The recipe yields one Tempered Iron Scythe.

What area does the Tempered Iron Scythe clear in one swing?

One right-click mows a flat 5×4 patch up to three blocks tall, with a cap of 40 blocks per swing. The Diamond Scythe goes wider at 5×5 and 50 blocks, and the Netherite Scythe widest at 7×5 and 70.

Does the Tempered Iron Scythe destroy unripe crops?

No. A plain right-click never touches crops at all, and the Shift harvest mode cuts only fully mature crops, leaving unripe seedlings and melon or pumpkin stems to grow.

How does the Tempered Iron Scythe bonus seed chance work?

In harvest mode, each cut of a true crop — wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot or the torchflower crop — has an 18% chance to drop one extra seed. The roll is independent of Fortune and stacks with it, while berries, cactus and sugar cane never grant it.

How long does the Tempered Iron Scythe last?

Tempered Iron Scythe carries 350 durability — 40% more than the iron scythe — and every actually broken plant costs exactly one point regardless of hardness. Repair Tempered Iron Scythe with tempered iron at an anvil when the bar runs low.

Does the Tempered Iron Scythe need EU power or a machine?

No. Tempered Iron Scythe is a hand tool outside Ala Industrial's EU energy tiers — no cables, generators or machines are involved, and it works the same on Fabric and NeoForge.
