Tesla Coil
Tesla Coil is the Industrial Craft 2 defense block that electrocutes every creature in a 9×9×9 cube through walls, running on MV power (medium voltage, 128 EU per tick).
Description
An MFE-fed Tesla Coil never spares villagers or the player, so the safest mounting spots sit inside walls or under floors along a guarded corridor, never in an open walkway. Tesla Coil drains its buffer whenever the redstone signal stays active — even with nothing in range — so wire the trigger through a stone pressure plate combined with a lever: only a creature standing on the plate then completes the firing circuit while the lever stays armed. Damage from several Tesla Coils stacks, so two coils spaced along one wall stop Endermen-class mobs far faster than a single unit. Keep the supply at MV level, because anything above 128 EU per tick makes Tesla Coil explode.

Guide
Building a Tesla Coil Defense Line
-
1
Craft the coil
Combine five Redstone Dust, two Iron, one MV-Transformer, and one Electronic Circuit on a crafting table to produce one Tesla Coil.
-
2
Connect MV power
Wire Tesla Coil to an MFE or another MV source — anything above 128 EU per tick makes Tesla Coil explode.
-
3
Add a gated redstone trigger
Run a redstone signal from a stone pressure plate through a lever to Tesla Coil: with the lever armed, only a creature on the plate starts the two-second discharge cycle.
-
4
Charge the buffer before nightfall
Leave the power connected until the internal buffer reaches 5,000 EU, then keep the lever off by day so the charge waits for a real target.
-
5
Scale into a defense line
Space additional Tesla Coils along the wall closer than eight blocks apart, so the 9×9×9 zones overlap and the stacking damage drops Endermen before the next cycle.
Tesla Coil drains EU while the redstone signal is active even with no targets in range — a bare always-on lever burns energy into empty air, while the plate-gated setup spends power only on intruders.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Industrial Craft 2 Tesla Coil hit through walls?
Yes — each discharge of Tesla Coil strikes every creature in a 9×9×9 cube, ignoring walls, floors, and ceilings between the coil and the target.
How many hits does a Tesla Coil need to kill a zombie?
A zombie, skeleton, creeper, or spider dies in two hits when Tesla Coil runs on an MFE, or seven hits on a BatBox; Endermen take twice as many strikes.
Why does my Tesla Coil drain power with no mobs around?
Tesla Coil consumes energy whenever the redstone signal stays active, targets or not — gate the signal with a stone pressure plate and a lever so the discharges wake only for intruders.
Does a Tesla Coil hurt players and villagers?
Yes — Tesla Coil hits every living creature in range, including the player and villagers, and an MFE-fed arc kills an unarmored player in a single strike.
What happens above 128 EU per tick?
Any input stronger than 128 EU per tick makes Tesla Coil explode, so keep the wiring at MV level or put a transformer between the source and the coil.
