Description

MV-Transformer is an Industrial Craft 2 machine block that converts EU between the 512 EU/t tier and the 128 EU/t tier. In the default step-down mode MV-Transformer accepts 512 EU/t through the single higher-voltage face and outputs 128 EU/t (×5) through the five one-dot faces. Step-up mode reverses the flow, merging 128 EU/t (×5) into 512 EU/t on the higher-voltage face. The recipe stacks one Machine Block between two Copper Cables in a vertical crafting-grid column and yields one MV-Transformer. An accidental redstone signal flips the mode while the GUI keeps the default 'Redstone = step-up' setting, and wrong mode settings cause explosive problems.

Industrial Craft 2 ships four transformers — LV, MV, HV and EV — and every transformer is named for the lower voltage of the pair. The five-dot face marks the 512 EU/t side of MV-Transformer and points toward the player at placement. A right-click with a Wrench on any face re-orients the higher-voltage side, and a shift-right-click selects the opposite face. Simply wrenching the five-dot face removes MV-Transformer. The HV-Transformer recipe and the Tesla Coil recipe each consume one MV-Transformer.

Guide

How to craft and wire the MV-Transformer in Industrial Craft 2

  1. 1

    Craft one MV-Transformer

Stack one Copper Cable, one Machine Block and a second Copper Cable in a straight vertical line on the crafting grid; the column yields one MV-Transformer.

  2. 2

    Place the five-dot face outward

Place MV-Transformer from the side where the 512 EU/t line will run: the five-dot face points toward the player, and the five remaining faces carry one dot each for 128 EU/t.

  3. 3

    Wire the step-down default

Connect the 512 EU/t source to the five-dot face and the 128 EU/t machines to the one-dot faces; without a redstone signal MV-Transformer stays in step-down mode.

  4. 4

    Flip to step-up with redstone

Apply a redstone signal to switch MV-Transformer into step-up mode while the GUI holds the default 'Redstone = step-up' option: 128 EU/t enters the one-dot faces, and 512 EU/t leaves the five-dot face.

  5. 5

    Reorient with a Wrench

Right-click any face with a Wrench to make the face the higher-voltage side, or shift-right-click to choose the opposite face.

Lock the mode before wiring

A stray redstone signal can flip an unlocked MV-Transformer and cause explosive problems; the GUI options fixed step-down and fixed step-up ignore redstone entirely.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove an MV-Transformer safely?

Wrench the five-dot higher-voltage face, or shift-wrench the opposite face, and MV-Transformer comes off without damage.

What is the difference between the MV-Transformer and the HV-Transformer?

MV-Transformer converts between 512 EU/t and 128 EU/t, while the HV-Transformer converts between 2048 EU/t and 512 EU/t. The HV-Transformer recipe also consumes one MV-Transformer.

Why does the MV-Transformer push 512 EU/t into 128 EU/t machines?

A redstone signal has flipped MV-Transformer into step-up mode; switch the GUI to fixed step-down to lock the 128 EU/t output.

Does the MV-Transformer store energy?

MV-Transformer keeps a small internal EU buffer that the GUI does not indicate, so EU can linger inside after the generator shuts down.
