Description

Mining Pipe is the shaft block that the Industrial Craft 2 Miner consumes to dig down toward ore, and every spent pipe comes back when the drill is removed. Mining Pipe comes in bulk: 6 Iron and 1 Treetap on a crafting table yield 16 pipes at once — enough for a deep dig. The same pipe also builds machines: the recipe of the Miner itself contains 1 Mining Pipe, and the Pump that clears water and lava next to a working Miner contains 2.

The Miner spends Mining Pipe segment by segment as the shaft grows, and ore lifted from the scan range collects in the Miner's internal inventory. When the dig ends, removing the drill retracts every Mining Pipe, so one batch of pipes can serve shaft after shaft. Putting a stack of cobblestone in the pipe slot makes the Miner drop cobblestone in place of each Mining Pipe, so the finished site keeps no dangerous open hole.

Guide

How to craft and use Mining Pipe in Industrial Craft 2

  1. 1

    Craft 16 Mining Pipes

Combine 6 Iron and 1 Treetap on a crafting table. One crafting operation in Industrial Craft 2 Experimental yields 16 Mining Pipes.

  2. 2

    Load the Miner

Open the Miner GUI, put a drill in the top-left slot and drop the Mining Pipes into the middle-left pipe slot.

  3. 3

    Run the dig

The Miner consumes Mining Pipes to push the shaft down and lifts ore from the scan range into the machine's internal inventory.

  4. 4

    Retract the pipes

Remove the drill from the finished Miner. Every Mining Pipe that went down the shaft returns to the machine.

  5. 5

    Backfill the shaft

Before retracting, place a stack of cobblestone in the pipe slot: the Miner drops cobblestone in place of each Mining Pipe and leaves no open hole.

Water and lava stop the dig

The Miner halts when the shaft hits water or lava. A Pump placed next to the Miner removes both liquids: lava fills the Pump's tank, water is discarded.

Frequently asked questions

Does every Industrial Craft 2 miner need Mining Pipe?

No. The Advanced Miner of Industrial Craft 2 Experimental accepts up to 512 EU/t high voltage and needs neither Mining Pipe nor a drill.

What does the Miner need besides Mining Pipe?

The Miner needs a drill in the top-left slot and low-voltage power to run. A scanner widens the dug ore column to 7×7 or even 13×13 blocks.

Can the Miner dig through torches or redstone wiring?

No. The Miner cannot mine through attached items such as torches or redstone wiring.

Is the recipe different in legacy Industrial Craft 2?

Yes. The legacy recipe combined 6 Refined Iron with 1 Treetap for 8 pipes; the current Experimental recipe uses 6 Iron and yields 16 Mining Pipes.
