How to Make Liquid Heat Exchanger in Minecraft
Liquid Heat Exchanger
Liquid Heat Exchanger extracts heat from lava and hot coolant, outputting 20–100 hU/t (heat units per game tick) for Industrial Craft 2 machines.
Description
One Liquid Heat Exchanger is crafted in a shaped recipe from four glass blocks, two fluid cells, two iron casings and one Heat Conductor. The machine runs only when the produced heat has somewhere to go and when the output fluid fits into the right tank, and redstone signals do not affect the always-running machine. The left tank receives the input fluid from a cell placed in the slot beneath it, and an emptied universal fluid cell comes back in the neighbouring slot, while the right tank collects the converted output. A Fluid Ejector Upgrade in one of the three upgrade slots ejects coolant or pahoehoe lava into a fluid distributor for automated loops, and pahoehoe lava exists nowhere else in Industrial Craft 2. One bucket of lava carries 20,000 hU — equal to 10,000 EU through a Stirling Generator — which makes the Liquid Heat Exchanger a steady heat source for any base with lava to spare.
Guide
How to Use the Liquid Heat Exchanger in Industrial Craft 2
-
1
Craft the machine
Lay out the shaped recipe on the crafting grid: four glass blocks in the corners of the top two rows, two fluid cells in the centre column above, and a bottom row of iron casing, Heat Conductor and iron casing. The recipe yields one Liquid Heat Exchanger.
-
2
Place the machine with the output face aimed
Put the Liquid Heat Exchanger down so that the face with the orange square — the heat output that points toward the player during placement — looks at the input side of a heat-consuming machine.
-
3
Insert Heat Conductors
Right-click the machine to open the GUI and fill the ten centre slots with Heat Conductors. Two conductors provide the minimum of 20 hU/t, and all ten slots raise the output to the maximum of 100 hU/t.
-
4
Supply lava or hot coolant
Fill the left input tank through the cell slot beneath it: lava converts into pahoehoe lava and hot coolant converts back into coolant while the extracted heat flows out of the orange face.
-
5
Automate the output
Install a Fluid Ejector Upgrade in one of the three upgrade slots at the bottom of the GUI to push the converted coolant or pahoehoe lava into a fluid distributor without manual cell handling.
The Liquid Heat Exchanger runs whenever the produced heat can be consumed and stored, and redstone signals do not affect the machine; a missing heat consumer simply pauses the conversion.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum setup for the Liquid Heat Exchanger to run?
At least two Heat Conductors must sit in the machine's ten conductor slots; two conductors give the minimum output of 20 hU/t.
Which fluids can the Liquid Heat Exchanger process?
Since build 694 only two inputs work: lava, which leaves the machine as pahoehoe lava, and hot coolant, which returns as regular coolant.
How is the Liquid Heat Exchanger crafted?
A shaped recipe of four glass blocks, two fluid cells, two iron casings and one Heat Conductor yields one machine.
How much heat does one bucket of lava produce?
A full bucket of lava delivers 20,000 hU, which equals 10,000 EU through a Stirling Generator.
Can redstone turn the Liquid Heat Exchanger off?
No, redstone signals do not affect the machine: the Liquid Heat Exchanger pauses only when the heat has no consumer or the output tank is full.
Which upgrades does the Liquid Heat Exchanger accept?
Fluid Ejector Upgrades and Ejector Upgrades fit the three upgrade slots at the bottom of the GUI, and the Fluid Ejector Upgrade is the recommended one for automatic output.
