Description

Kinetic Steam Generator converts Steam into kinetic units (kU) in Industrial Craft 2, forming the steam-driven stage of a kinetic power setup. The Kinetic Steam Generator requires a Steam Turbine as its rotating part and takes Steam delivered through pipes from a Steam Generator. A Kinetic Generator placed next to the Kinetic Steam Generator turns the kU into electricity at a fixed rate of 1 EU for every 4 kU. Steam condenses on the turbine during operation, and the Kinetic Steam Generator fills with Distilled Water that can be pumped out and recycled into the Steam Generator.

One Kinetic Steam Generator is crafted from five Steel, one Copper Boiler, two Iron Shafts, and one Fluid Cell: three Steel fill the top row of the crafting grid, the Copper Boiler and both Iron Shafts form the middle row, and the Fluid Cell joins two more Steel along the bottom. Feeding Superheated Steam instead of normal Steam doubles the kU output and halves the wear on the Steam Turbine, while the exhaust condenses into normal Steam that can supply a second Kinetic Steam Generator. Double output and slower turbine wear make Superheated Steam the stronger choice for a running steam line.

Guide

How to use the Kinetic Steam Generator in Industrial Craft 2

  1. 1

    Craft the Kinetic Steam Generator

Place three Steel across the top row of a crafting table, set the Copper Boiler and two Iron Shafts across the middle row, and lay the Fluid Cell with two more Steel along the bottom row; the shaped recipe yields one Kinetic Steam Generator.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Steam Turbine

The Kinetic Steam Generator requires a Steam Turbine as its rotating part, and the turbine takes wear from every portion of Steam passing through.

  3. 3

    Pipe in the Steam

A Steam Generator supplies Steam through pipes into the Kinetic Steam Generator, and the Kinetic Steam Generator converts the Steam into kU.

  4. 4

    Add the Kinetic Generator

A Kinetic Generator placed beside the Kinetic Steam Generator converts the kU output into EU at the fixed rate of 1 EU for 4 kU.

  5. 5

    Recycle the water, then upgrade

The Kinetic Steam Generator fills with Distilled Water as Steam condenses; pump the water back to the Steam Generator, then switch to Superheated Steam for double kU output and half the Steam Turbine wear.

Removal tool

The IC2 wiki lists a wrench as the tool for the Kinetic Steam Generator, so use a wrench to take the Kinetic Steam Generator apart before moving it.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Kinetic Steam Generator do in Industrial Craft 2?

The Kinetic Steam Generator converts Steam into kinetic units (kU). A Kinetic Generator placed next to the machine turns that kU into EU at 1 EU per 4 kU.

How do you craft the Kinetic Steam Generator?

One Kinetic Steam Generator needs five Steel, one Copper Boiler, two Iron Shafts, and one Fluid Cell arranged on a crafting table.

Does the Kinetic Steam Generator need a Steam Turbine?

The Kinetic Steam Generator requires a Steam Turbine as its rotating part, and the turbine slowly wears down from passing Steam.

What happens to the Steam inside the Kinetic Steam Generator?

Steam condenses on the turbine and fills the Kinetic Steam Generator with Distilled Water that can be piped out and returned to the Steam Generator.

What does Superheated Steam change?

Superheated Steam doubles the kU output of the Kinetic Steam Generator and halves Steam Turbine damage; the exhaust condenses into normal Steam that can feed a second Kinetic Steam Generator.
