Description

Hydrated Coal Dust is an intermediate processing material in Industrial Craft 2 (IC2 Experimental), forming the critical link between raw Coal Dust and the Carbon Plate needed for high-tier technology. It is produced by combining Coal Dust — macerator output from Coal blocks — with water in a crafting grid, resulting in a dark, moist powder that stores indefinitely. Hydrated Coal Dust has no standalone utility as fuel or building material; its single function is serving as Compressor input.

Compressing Hydrated Coal Dust in an IC2 Compressor yields Carbon Plates, which are required for Carbon Fiber Dust, advanced machine upgrades, and Quantum Armor components. Quantum Armor and Iridium Plates both trace their crafting chains back to Hydrated Coal Dust, making a reliable Coal supply and a water source essential for any IC2 end-game progression. Macerating Coal in a Macerator first doubles the yield — 1 Coal produces 2 Coal Dust — so players who skip the Macerator step consume twice as many Coal resources for the same number of Carbon Plates.

How to obtain and use Hydrated Coal Dust in Industrial Craft 2

  1. 1

    Get Coal Dust

Macerate Coal blocks in an IC2 Macerator to produce Coal Dust. One Coal block yields 2 Coal Dust, doubling your Carbon Plate output per coal compared to skipping the Macerator.

  2. 2

    Combine with water

Place Coal Dust and a Water Bucket together in a crafting grid to produce Hydrated Coal Dust. The Water Bucket is returned empty after the craft.

  3. 3

    Compress into Carbon Plates

Insert Hydrated Coal Dust into an IC2 Compressor. The machine consumes EU energy and produces one Carbon Plate per dust unit.

  4. 4

Use Carbon Plates in advanced recipes

Carbon Plates are required for Carbon Fiber Dust (via Assembly Machine), Iridium Plates, and all Quantum Armor pieces in IC2.

  5. 5

    Maintain your supply chain

Set up an infinite water source next to your crafting area and automate Coal maceration to keep a steady Hydrated Coal Dust production line running.

Note

Hydrated Coal Dust has no alternative use. It cannot be burned as furnace fuel, used in a Generator, or placed as a decorative block.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make Hydrated Coal Dust in IC2?

Combine Coal Dust (obtained by macerating Coal in an IC2 Macerator) with a Water Bucket in a crafting grid. The bucket is returned empty after the craft.

What is Hydrated Coal Dust used for in Industrial Craft 2?

Hydrated Coal Dust is fed into an IC2 Compressor to produce Carbon Plates, which are required for Carbon Fiber Dust, advanced machine upgrades, and Quantum Armor components.

Can Hydrated Coal Dust be used as fuel?

No. Hydrated Coal Dust cannot be burned in a Furnace or IC2 Generator. Its only use is as Compressor input for Carbon Plate production.

Is Hydrated Coal Dust renewable in Minecraft?

Yes. Coal can be obtained from mining or wither skeleton drops, and water is infinitely renewable from infinite water sources in any Minecraft world.

Does Hydrated Coal Dust work in vanilla Minecraft?

No. Hydrated Coal Dust is exclusive to Industrial Craft 2 (IC2 Experimental) and does not exist in vanilla Minecraft without the mod installed.
