Description

Crystal Memory is an item from IndustrialCraft 2 (Experimental) that stores the pattern of a single scanned item or block for later matter replication. Crystal Memory is crafted in two stages: arrange 5 Silicon Dioxide and 4 Obsidian Dust in an alternating pattern on the crafting grid to make Crystal Memory (raw), then smelt that raw crystal with coal or any fuel in a furnace to finish the Crystal Memory. The finished Crystal Memory starts blank and only carries data after it is scanned.

Crystal Memory acts as the data carrier of the IC2 replication chain. Place Crystal Memory in the bottom-right slot of a Scanner together with the target item, and the Scanner spends EU to read and write that item's pattern onto the crystal. Move the loaded Crystal Memory into a Pattern Storage to bank the recipe, then a Replicator rebuilds the item from UU-Matter using the stored pattern. A single Crystal Memory holds only one pattern at a time, and scanning a new item overwrites the old data, so keep a separate blank crystal for every item you plan to mass-produce.

IndustrialCraft 2 Guide

How to use Crystal Memory in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Craft Crystal Memory (raw)

Place 5 Silicon Dioxide and 4 Obsidian Dust in an alternating pattern on the crafting grid to produce one Crystal Memory (raw).

  2. 2

    Smelt it in a furnace

Smelt the Crystal Memory (raw) with coal or any fuel in a furnace to harden it into a finished, blank Crystal Memory.

  3. 3

    Scan a target item

Open a powered Scanner, place your item inside, and put the blank Crystal Memory in the bottom-right slot so the Scanner writes the item pattern onto it.

  4. 4

    Store the pattern

Move the loaded Crystal Memory into a Pattern Storage to save the recipe permanently and keep the data ready for replication.

  5. 5

    Replicate from UU-Matter

Feed the pattern to a Replicator supplied with UU-Matter and EU to duplicate the original item as often as your matter reserves allow.

Patterns overwrite

A Crystal Memory keeps only one pattern at a time — rescanning a different item erases the previous data, so dedicate a separate crystal to each item you want to replicate.

Frequently asked questions

How do you craft Crystal Memory in IndustrialCraft 2?

Combine 5 Silicon Dioxide and 4 Obsidian Dust in an alternating crafting-grid pattern to get Crystal Memory (raw), then smelt the raw crystal with fuel in a furnace to finish it.

What is Crystal Memory used for?

Crystal Memory stores the pattern of one scanned item so a Replicator can rebuild that item from UU-Matter through IC2's matter-duplication system.

Can a Crystal Memory hold more than one pattern?

No. A Crystal Memory holds a single pattern at a time, and scanning a new item overwrites the previous one — use Pattern Storage to bank multiple patterns.

Where does Crystal Memory go in the Scanner?

Place Crystal Memory in the bottom-right slot of the Scanner next to the item you want to copy, and the Scanner writes the pattern onto the crystal.

Which version of IndustrialCraft 2 has Crystal Memory?

Crystal Memory is part of IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental (V2.x), where it drives the Scanner, Pattern Storage, and Replicator replication line.
