How to Make Coil in Minecraft
Coil
Coil is an Industrial Craft 2 crafting component (a part used to build machines) made from eight Copper Cables and one iron ingot.
Description
Coil feeds several core Industrial Craft 2 machines from a single production line. The Electric Motor recipe spends two Coils per motor. The LV-Transformer slots one Coil into the center of its crafting grid. The Thermal Centrifuge consumes two or three Coils depending on the recipe variant. A stock of Coils therefore converts directly into Electric Motors, LV-Transformers, and Thermal Centrifuges whenever the assembly line needs new machines.
Guide
How to craft a Coil in Industrial Craft 2
-
1
Gather the ingredients
Collect eight Copper Cables and one iron ingot for every Coil on the crafting list.
-
2
Open a crafting table
Use a crafting table to get the full 3×3 grid; the Coil recipe fills all nine cells.
-
3
Place the iron ingot in the center
Put the iron ingot into the middle cell of the 3×3 grid.
-
4
Surround the ingot with Copper Cables
Fill the remaining eight cells with one Copper Cable each, closing a complete ring around the iron ingot.
-
5
Collect the Coil
Take the finished Coil from the output slot. A single craft produces exactly one Coil.
Two Electric Motors cost four Coils in total — 32 Copper Cables and four iron ingots of ingredients. Counting Coils before assembly avoids shortages halfway through.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Coil a block or an item in Industrial Craft 2?
The Coil is an item — a crafting component built into machine recipes — not a block placed in the world.
Does the Coil recipe work in the 2×2 inventory crafting grid?
No. The ring of eight Copper Cables around one iron ingot fills all nine cells, so the recipe needs a crafting table's 3×3 grid.
What does a Coil do inside the Electric Heat Generator?
A Coil placed inside the Electric Heat Generator increases the rate at which EU is converted into heat. EU is the energy unit of Industrial Craft 2.
Why do Thermal Centrifuge recipes ask for different numbers of Coils?
Industrial Craft 2 keeps two Thermal Centrifuge recipe variants: one variant uses two Coils and the other uses three Coils. Both variants craft the same Thermal Centrifuge.
