Description

Electric Motor is a core crafting component from Industrial Craft 2 (IC2 Experimental) for Minecraft. It is an item, not a placeable block, and exists purely as an ingredient in IC2 machine recipes. The motor is made from iron, copper, and insulated tin cable arranged in a shaped 3×3 grid: two insulated tin cables on the sides, two iron ingots top and bottom, and one copper ingot in the center. Right-clicking the Electric Motor in the world does nothing, since it has no standalone function. Its value comes from how many IC2 devices require one or more motors to assemble. Players craft Electric Motors when they build the Macerator (with cobblestone and flint), Compressor, Pump, Miner, Mining Drill, Chainsaw, Magnetizer, and the rotor assemblies of wind generators. Together with Electronic Circuit and Advanced Circuit, the Electric Motor is one of the three foundational IC2 components, so a steady supply unlocks the rest of the tech tree. Many IC2 progression guides recommend smelting a small batch of tin, producing insulated tin cable, and crafting several motors in advance before starting machine recipes. On the AlaCraft server, the Electric Motor is part of the IC2 mod pack and behaves exactly as in vanilla IC2 Experimental, with no balance changes to recipe or function.

Guide

How to craft an Electric Motor in IC2

  1. 1

    Gather iron and copper

Mine at least 2 iron ingots and 1 copper ingot. Copper ore is added by IC2 and smelts in any furnace.

  2. 2

Smelt tin and make insulated tin cable

Smelt tin ore into tin ingots, craft them into tin cable, then combine the cable with rubber to produce 2 insulated tin cables.

  3. 3

    Open a crafting table

You need a standard 3×3 crafting grid. A 2×2 inventory grid is not enough for the Electric Motor recipe.

  4. 4

    Place the components

Put 2 insulated tin cables on the left and right middle slots, 2 iron ingots on the top and bottom middle slots, and 1 copper ingot in the center.

  5. 5

Use the motor in machine recipes

Take the finished Electric Motor and combine it with other parts to craft IC2 machines such as the Macerator, Compressor, Pump, or Mining Drill.

Frequently asked questions

What is the recipe for the Electric Motor?

Place 2 insulated tin cables on the left and right middle slots, 2 iron ingots on the top and bottom middle slots, and 1 copper ingot in the center of a 3×3 crafting grid.

Which mod adds the Electric Motor?

It is added by Industrial Craft 2 (IC2 Experimental). The internal ID is ic2:electric_motor.

What is the Electric Motor used for?

It is a crafting ingredient for many IC2 machines and tools, including the Macerator, Compressor, Pump, Miner, Mining Drill, Chainsaw, Magnetizer, and wind generator rotors.

Can I place the Electric Motor in the world?

No. The Electric Motor is an item, not a block, and right-clicking it in the world has no effect.

Is the Electric Motor the same as the Electronic Circuit?

No. They are separate IC2 components. Together with Advanced Circuit, they form the three core building blocks of IC2 recipes.

Does the Electric Motor produce or store energy on its own?

No. It has no standalone function and stores no EU. Its only role is as a recipe ingredient.
