How to Make Kinetic Generator in Minecraft

Kinetic Generator — Minecraft block

Kinetic Generator

Kinetic Generator is the Industrial Craft 2 machine that turns kinetic energy (movement captured as kU) into electricity (EU) for powering other machines.

Description

Kinetic Generator converts kinetic energy into electrical energy at a fixed rate of 1 EU for 4 kU, acting as the power-conversion core of Industrial Craft 2 kinetic setups. Kinetic producers such as the Kinetic Steam Generator and the Kinetic Water Generator output kU; the Kinetic Water Generator harvests moving water in river, ocean, and deep ocean biomes. The Kinetic Generator turns incoming kU into EU, holds up to 200,000 EU in an internal buffer, and peaks at 512 EU per tick. The machine first appeared in IC2 Experimental build #523.

Crafting one Kinetic Generator takes six Iron (an IC2 metal component), one Generator, one Electric Motor, and one Iron Shaft: three Iron across the top row of the grid, Generator, Electric Motor, and Iron Shaft across the middle row, and three Iron across the bottom row. A wrench is the tool the IC2 wiki lists for dismantling the machine. Kinetic Generator links a kinetic setup to the EU network, turning the output of steam and water machines into electricity for Industrial Craft 2 equipment.

Guide

How to use the Kinetic Generator in Industrial Craft 2

  1. 1

    Craft the Kinetic Generator

Fill the top and bottom rows of a crafting table with three Iron each, then place one Generator, one Electric Motor, and one Iron Shaft across the middle row. The shaped recipe yields one Kinetic Generator.

  2. 2

Add the machine to a kinetic setup

Build the Kinetic Generator into a setup with a kinetic producer such as the Kinetic Steam Generator or the Kinetic Water Generator, the companions the IC2 wiki names for this converter.

  3. 3

    Connect the EU output

Wire the Kinetic Generator into the EU network so the converted electricity reaches storages and machines; the conversion rate stays fixed at 1 EU for 4 kU.

  4. 4

    Track the internal buffer

The internal storage of the Kinetic Generator holds up to 200,000 EU, and the output never exceeds 512 EU per tick.

Removal tool

The IC2 wiki lists a wrench as the tool for the Kinetic Generator, so take the machine apart with a wrench when it has to move.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Kinetic Generator do in Industrial Craft 2?

The Kinetic Generator transforms kinetic energy into electrical energy at a rate of 1 EU for 4 kU. Output peaks at 512 EU per tick.

Which machines work with the Kinetic Generator?

The IC2 wiki names the Kinetic Steam Generator as a common companion, and the Kinetic Water Generator supplies kU from moving water in river and ocean biomes.

How much EU can the Kinetic Generator store?

The internal buffer of the Kinetic Generator holds up to 200,000 EU, and the machine outputs at most 512 EU per tick.

When was the Kinetic Generator added to IC2?

The Kinetic Generator first appeared in IC2 Experimental build #523. The machine belongs to the Experimental branch only.

What is kU in Industrial Craft 2?

The kinetic energy unit kU is what kinetic machines generate from motion; the Kinetic Water Generator, for example, harvests flowing water. The Kinetic Generator converts 4 kU into 1 EU.
