Barrel is the IndustrialCraft 2 brewing barrel that ferments wheat, hops and water cells into beer.
Description
The Barrel does not pour beer on its own: attach a Barrel Tap to the side and fill Stone Mugs — crafted from 7 stone — by right-clicking the tap, keeping in mind that an attached tap pauses fermentation until you remove it. The block is flammable like any wooden Minecraft block, so keep it away from lava and fire. Multiple Barrels can be lined up next to each other for parallel batches. Beer is one of the rare consumable rewards in IC2, and Hops come from the IC2 agriculture system rather than from trees.

Craft the Barrel
Craft the Barrel on the 3x3 crafting grid from wood planks and a Rubber Wood log — both materials come from trees.

Set up the brewery
Place a wooden scaffold and right-click it with the Barrel in hand; the Barrel sits on top of the scaffold.

Add ingredients
Right-click the Barrel with wheat, then with hops, then with water cells — the ratios of ingredients to water and wheat to hops decide the drink's body and shade.

Wait for fermentation
Leave the Barrel loaded for several in-game hours; the chunk must stay loaded for the timer to advance, so keep it inside your active base.

Attach a Barrel Tap and pour
Place a Barrel Tap on the front face, then right-click the tap with empty Stone Mugs to fill them with finished beer.
Fermentation time sets the grade: 2 hours, 4 hours, 12 hours and 24 hours brew drinks of increasing strength. An attached Barrel Tap pauses fermentation, so tap the Barrel only when you are ready to drink.

Can the Barrel be filled with anything other than beer ingredients?

Do BuildCraft pipes drain the Barrel?
No. The Barrel does not expose a fluid output; you must place a Barrel Tap on the side and pour into mugs by hand.
Does fermentation continue when the chunk is unloaded?
