The furnace is one of the four essential utility blocks every Minecraft player needs (alongside the crafting table, chest, and bed).

Description
It is crafted from eight cobblestone arranged in a ring on the crafting grid. The furnace smelts ores into ingots (iron ore → iron ingot, gold ore → gold ingot), bakes food (raw beef → steak, raw potato → baked potato), and converts logs into charcoal — an early-game replacement for coal. Any flammable item can fuel a furnace, with coal and lava buckets being the most efficient choices. Smelting one item costs roughly 0.1 coal-units of fuel.
