Blast Furnace
Blast Furnace smelts ores and metal armour twice as fast as a regular furnace — the workstation of the armorer villager.
Description
A secondary use makes the device essential outside production: feeding old metal tools and armour into it returns one iron or gold nugget per item — useful for recycling damaged loot from dungeons and abandoned mineshafts. Like the smoker, the block serves as the workstation of the armorer villager profession; placing it in an unstaffed village recruits an unemployed villager into the armorer role, unlocking trades for diamond armour at master level. Mining returns the device intact regardless of contents.

Frequently asked questions
What can a Blast Furnace smelt in Minecraft?
A Blast Furnace smelts ores (iron, gold, copper, etc.), raw metal items, and metal armor and tools. It cannot cook food, smelt sand into glass, or process non-metallic materials. For food, use a Smoker or regular Furnace.
How much faster is a Blast Furnace than a regular Furnace?
A Blast Furnace processes each item in 100 ticks (5 seconds) while a regular Furnace takes 200 ticks (10 seconds). This makes the Blast Furnace exactly twice as fast for ores and metals. Fuel consumption per item is identical, so the Blast Furnace delivers double the throughput at the same fuel cost.
How do I craft a Blast Furnace?
Place 1 Furnace in the center of the crafting grid, 5 Iron Ingots in the top row and middle left/right slots, and 3 Smooth Stone blocks in the bottom row. Smooth Stone is made by smelting regular Stone in a Furnace. The recipe yields 1 Blast Furnace.
What villager profession uses a Blast Furnace?
The Armorer villager profession uses the Blast Furnace as its job site block. Placing a Blast Furnace in a village without an active Armorer will convert a nearby unemployed villager into an Armorer, who trades iron, chain, and diamond armor at various levels.
Can a Blast Furnace smelt tools and armor?
Yes. A Blast Furnace can smelt metal tools and armor made from iron or gold. Smelting them yields 1 iron or gold nugget per item, regardless of durability. This is a useful way to recover materials from damaged equipment found in dungeons or abandoned mineshafts.
When was the Blast Furnace added to Minecraft?
The Blast Furnace was added in Java Edition 1.14 (Village and Pillage update), released in April 2019. It was introduced alongside the Smoker and overhaul of villager professions to give players specialized smelting tools.
