How to grow an acacia tree from a sapling in Minecraft
-
1
Get the sapling
Break acacia leaf blocks to collect saplings — each leaf has about a 5% drop chance, improved by the Fortune enchantment. Wandering traders also sell acacia saplings.
-
2
Plant on a valid block
Place the sapling on grass, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, podzol, mud, or farmland. The block above it needs light level 9 or higher for the sapling to grow.
-
3
Leave clearance above
Acacia grows a bent, diagonal trunk, so keep the space above and beside the sapling clear of blocks or the tree will fail to generate.
-
4
Speed it up with bone meal
Right-click the sapling with bone meal to advance its growth stages and grow the full tree almost instantly.
-
5
Harvest the orange logs
Chop the trunk with any axe to collect orange-tinted acacia logs, then replant the saplings that drop from the leaves.
A single acacia sapling needs a roughly 5×5 open area and several blocks of vertical clearance because of its wide, forked canopy. Saplings cannot be used as furnace fuel.

How do you get an acacia sapling?
Break acacia leaf blocks — each has about a 5% chance to drop a sapling, raised by the Fortune enchantment. Wandering traders also sell them.
What light level does an acacia sapling need to grow?
The block above the sapling needs light level 9 or higher. Below that the sapling stays planted but will not grow.

No. Acacia saplings are not craftable. You only get them from acacia leaves or by trading with a wandering trader.
Where do acacia trees grow naturally?
Acacia trees generate in Savanna, Savanna Plateau, and Windswept Savanna biomes, where their orange wood and flat canopy are common.
Can you put acacia saplings in a composter?
Yes. Each acacia sapling has a 30% chance to raise the compost level when placed in a composter.
