Description

Iron Furnace is a machine block added by the IndustrialCraft 2 (IC2) mod, not a vanilla Minecraft block. It is an upgraded version of the standard furnace: it smelts items noticeably faster and burns solid fuel far more efficiently, so a single piece of coal or charcoal cooks more items than it would in a normal furnace. Unlike most IndustrialCraft 2 machines, the Iron Furnace needs no EU electricity at all — it burns the same solid fuels as a vanilla furnace, which makes it the ideal early-game upgrade before you build a power grid. Players craft it from one vanilla Furnace surrounded by five iron ingots in a U-shape, making it cheap and accessible soon after finding iron. The Iron Furnace retains leftover heat between smelting jobs, reducing wasted fuel during long smelting sessions. It is the natural stepping stone toward the Electric Furnace, which runs on EU power and smelts even faster once your IC2 base has electricity. In normal Minecraft survival without mods, the Iron Furnace does not exist.

IndustrialCraft 2 Guide

How to make an Iron Furnace in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Get five iron ingots

Mine iron ore and smelt it into at least five iron ingots, the main material for the Iron Furnace.

  2. 2

    Craft a vanilla Furnace

Make a standard Furnace from eight cobblestone if you do not already have one to upgrade.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Iron Furnace

Place the Furnace in the center of the crafting grid and surround it with five iron ingots in a U-shape.

  4. 4

    Add solid fuel

Load coal, charcoal, or another solid fuel into the bottom slot, exactly like a vanilla furnace.

  5. 5

    Smelt faster

Put ores or food in the top slot; the Iron Furnace cooks them quicker and wastes less fuel than a normal furnace.

Mod required

The Iron Furnace uses no EU electricity, but it exists only with the IndustrialCraft 2 mod installed and has no vanilla equivalent.
