Reactor Column
Reactor Column is the transparent four-rod rack at the heart of an Ala Industrial reactor: 576,000 EU of uranium fuel, cooling water turned into steam, no menu.
Description
Cooling is the Reactor Column's second job. Reactor Column carries a 4000 mB water tank and a 4000 mB steam tank: pipes push water into any face except the top, while steam leaves only through the top face into an extracting pipe, and neither direction can be reversed. One millibucket of water absorbs 2 heat and comes back as 1 mB of steam, so a lone column drinks 8 mB per tick (a tick is 1/20 of a second) while a dense zone at the reactor ceiling needs up to 273 mB per tick; without water a single column climbs to the accident mark in about 31 seconds. Reactor Column blocks stacked vertically act as one tall vessel, filled from the bottom and vented from the top. One craft turns four Iron Ingots, four Reactor Glass, and one Shielding Plate into two columns; the block exists only in the Java Edition of the mod (Minecraft 26.2, Fabric and NeoForge) and is mined with a pickaxe at hardness 3 and blast resistance 6. Breaking Reactor Column returns every rod intact — only the water and steam are lost.

How to load and cool a Reactor Column
-
1
Craft the columns
Place four Iron Ingots on the corners, four Reactor Glass on the edges, and one Shielding Plate in the centre of the crafting grid; every craft yields two Reactor Columns for the reactor hall.
-
2
Stand the racks inside the room
Build the sealed reactor room around its Reactor Controller first, then stand Reactor Column blocks inside; vertical stacks merge into one vessel, and a hand-placed column joins the machine at the controller's next scan, up to 2 seconds later.
-
3
Load the fuel
Right-click Reactor Column with a Fuel Rod in hand — up to four rods per rack, one metallic click at a time; free slots also take Fuel Rod Claddings parked there as storage.
-
4
Wire the cooling loop
Push water into any face of Reactor Column except the top and pull steam from above with an extracting pipe; a lone column draws 8 mB per tick, so vent the steam through a Steam Nozzle to keep boiling alive.
-
5
Empty the rack
Right-click Reactor Column with an empty hand to pull rods out — burnt-out claddings first, then fuelled rods top-down — and refill the claddings with enriched uranium for the next run.
Reactor Column wears its rods down only while the Reactor Controller is actually delivering energy. With the controller buffer full and no machines drawing power, four fuelled Fuel Rods sit in the rack without losing a single durability point.

Frequently asked questions
How much fuel does a Reactor Column hold?
Reactor Column seats four Fuel Rods at 144,000 EU each — 576,000 EU per full rack. All four rods wear down at the same time, roughly 20 minutes at the pace of a lone-column room, and every burnt-out rod becomes a Fuel Rod Cladding standing in its slot.
How do I take rods out of a Reactor Column?
Right-click Reactor Column with an empty hand: burnt-out Fuel Rod Claddings come back first, and only then still-fuelled rods from the top down. A partially-spent Fuel Rod keeps its durability and can go straight back into a slot; breaking the block drops the whole contents intact, though water and steam are lost.
Why does a Reactor Column need water?
Water is the only cooling a running Ala Industrial reactor has: 1 mB absorbs 2 heat and becomes 1 mB of steam. Feed water through any face except the top — a lone column drinks 8 mB per tick — because without water Reactor Column climbs to the accident mark in about 31 seconds.
Does a Reactor Column have a GUI?
No. Reactor Column is read entirely from the model: occupied slots, bright fuelled rods against dark claddings, and the water level in quarters. Even the reactor hum sounds from the fuelled columns, not from the Reactor Controller panel.
Is a fuelled Reactor Column radioactive?
Yes — a column loaded with uranium is the strongest radiation source in Ala Industrial, which is exactly what the sealed reactor room exists to contain. Keep the shell intact and keep Fuel Rods in racks or a Shielding Chest, never loose on the floor.
