Description

Control Rod Drive is a crafting component of the Ala Industrial tech mod — the mechanism that physically moves the control rods of a nuclear reactor. Control Rod Drive is assembled on a crafting table from three Shielding Plates, two iron ingots, one Electronic Circuit, two Tempered Iron Plates and one piston. The expensive part is the shielding: one palladium ingot plus three tempered iron ingots yield three shielding alloy ingots in the Alloy Smelter, so each drive costs exactly one palladium ingot of Nether ore. Control Rod Drive stacks to 64, draws no EU on its own, and exists only in Minecraft 26.2 Java Edition on the Fabric and NeoForge loaders.

Control Rod Drive goes into exactly two recipes of the nuclear chain. The Reactor Airlock Door uses the drive as the actuator that slides a vanilla iron leaf down into the floor: the door opens on a redstone pulse and seals itself two seconds later. The Reactor Controller — an HV block that runs the reaction at up to 512 EU/t — carries the drive as the mechanism behind rod-depth control, the slider that raises and lowers fuel rods to throttle output. A minimal reactor needs one Control Rod Drive inside the controller, plus a second one for the airlock door if you want a proper entrance instead of a walled-up hole.

Crafting guide

How to craft a Control Rod Drive in Ala Industrial

  1. 1

    Mine palladium in the Nether

Palladium ore hides in netherrack, basalt and blackstone, needs a diamond pickaxe, and processes into palladium ingots.

  2. 2

    Smelt the shielding alloy

Load the Alloy Smelter with 1 palladium ingot and 3 tempered iron ingots; one run costs 1200 EU and yields 3 shielding alloy ingots.

  3. 3

    Hammer out the plates

Combine each shielding alloy ingot with a Forge Hammer on the crafting table — one ingot becomes one Shielding Plate, and one drive needs three.

  4. 4

    Assemble the drive

Fill the 3x3 grid with three Shielding Plates on top, iron ingot, Electronic Circuit and iron ingot in the middle row, then Tempered Iron Plate, piston and Tempered Iron Plate below.

  5. 5

Spend the drive on the reactor

Craft one Control Rod Drive into the Reactor Controller and a second one into the Reactor Airlock Door for a proper entrance.

No energy of its own

Control Rod Drive is a pure crafting component — it draws no EU, and the airlock door moves on a redstone pulse, not on electricity.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Control Rod Drive do in Ala Industrial?

Control Rod Drive moves the control rods of a nuclear reactor; the item is required to craft the Reactor Controller and the Reactor Airlock Door.

Is the Control Rod Drive a block?

No, Control Rod Drive is an item: it cannot be placed in the world and stacks to 64.

How much palladium does one Control Rod Drive cost?

Three Shielding Plates equal one palladium ingot's worth of shielding alloy, so one drive costs exactly one palladium ingot plus three tempered iron ingots.

Does the Control Rod Drive consume EU?

No, Control Rod Drive uses no energy at all; the machines built with it are moved by redstone, not by the drive itself.

Does the Control Rod Drive exist on Bedrock?

No, Ala Industrial is a Java Edition mod for Minecraft 26.2 and runs only on the Fabric and NeoForge loaders.
