Description

The Canned Ration is Ala Industrial's universal field food: the one item the Canning Machine presses out of anything edible. Load it with carrots, bread, berries or leftover mob drops and the output is always the same — a ration worth 8 hunger points (as much as a steak) and 1.6 saturation (the hidden reserve that keeps the hunger bar from draining), eaten in one second instead of the usual 1.6. Rations pressed from different foods are the identical item, so a dozen slots of assorted scraps collapse into a single stack of 64.

Each ration costs the machine 12.0 of food value (nutrition plus saturation) and carries 9.6 back, so one fifth is always spent — that gap is exactly what makes duplicating food impossible. The empty can is a workbench craft from five tin plates and one glass pane, yielding eight cans, and every pressing cycle draws 200 EU. A full stack of 64 rations therefore costs 40 tin plates — 20 tin ore run through the macerator with its doubled yield. The machine refuses hazardous food such as raw chicken or rotten flesh, and the ration itself cannot be re-canned. Side effects of the source food do not carry over: a canned golden apple restores hunger and nothing else. The tin is not returned after eating, and a full player cannot eat one — just like ordinary food. The Canned Ration works identically on Fabric and NeoForge for Minecraft 26.2.

How to get and use a Canned Ration in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Stock up on tin plates

Smelt tin ore into ingots and press them into plates at the Compressor — five plates plus one glass pane craft eight empty cans at a workbench.

  2. 2

    Set up the Canning Machine

Place the machine, connect LV power (up to 32 EU/tick) and fill the bottom slot with empty cans; one pressing cycle costs 200 EU.

  3. 3

    Feed in any food

Drop leftovers — bread, carrots, berries, cooked meat — into the top slot. The machine banks their food value and presses one ration per 12.0 collected.

  4. 4

    Watch the Calories line

The window shows how much value is banked towards the next ration; absorbing is free, EU are spent only when pressing.

  5. 5

    Eat on the road

One ration restores 8 hunger in a single second. The can vanishes with the last bite, and a full player cannot eat one.

Important

Pressing always loses one fifth of the food value (9.6 out of 12.0). Stews and honey are accepted, but their bowl or bottle is not returned.

Frequently asked questions

How much hunger does a Canned Ration restore?

Eight hunger points — the same as a steak — plus 1.6 saturation (a steak carries 12.8). Industrial food fills the stomach but does not keep you fed for long.

How do you get Canned Rations?

Only the Canning Machine makes them: any accepted food plus one empty can, pressed for 200 EU. There is no workbench recipe for the ration itself.

Do rations from different foods stack together?

Yes. A ration pressed from bread and one pressed from porkchop are the identical item, so they share one stack of 64 — that is the machine's whole point.

Can the Canning Machine duplicate food?

No. One ration costs 12.0 of food value and gives back 9.6, so a fifth is always lost. Re-canning only shrinks the supply, and the machine refuses its own rations anyway.

What food does the machine refuse?

Hazardous food — raw chicken, rotten flesh, poisonous potato, pufferfish and spider eye — plus anything that is not food and food with no nutrition. Stews and honey go in, but the bowl or bottle is lost.

How much tin does a stack of rations cost?

Five tin plates and one glass pane make eight cans, so 64 rations spend 40 plates — 40 ingots, or 20 tin ore when the ore is doubled through the macerator.
