Description

Slime Block is crafted from nine slimeballs in a 3×3 pattern. When an entity falls onto it, it bounces upward to roughly 60% of the original drop height. Holding jump while landing increases the bounce to nearly full height, allowing repeated jumps. Sneaking cancels the bounce entirely.

Slime blocks pull adjacent blocks when moved by a sticky piston, up to the piston's 12-block chain limit. This mechanic is the foundation of flying machines and most complex redstone contraptions in both Java and Bedrock. Honey blocks share the sticking behavior but are incompatible with slime blocks — the two do not stick to each other — enabling advanced split-machine designs where different sections travel independently.

Slimeballs are obtained from Slimes — hostile mobs that spawn in slime chunks and swamp biomes — and from baby pandas sneezing. Slime blocks are also useful as a landing pad under high builds during construction.

How to use a Slime Block in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Gather nine slimeballs

Kill Slimes in slime chunks below Y=40 or in swamp biomes at night, or collect slimeballs from sneezing baby pandas. Nine slimeballs make one Slime Block.

  2. 2

    Craft the Slime Block

Fill all nine cells of the 3×3 crafting grid with slimeballs to produce one Slime Block. The recipe is reversible, so one Slime Block crafts back into nine slimeballs.

  3. 3

    Use the bounce

Drop onto a Slime Block to bounce up to roughly 60% of your fall height with zero fall damage. Hold the jump key on impact to bounce higher, or sneak to land without bouncing.

  4. 4

    Build redstone machines

Place a Slime Block against a sticky piston to drag up to 12 attached blocks. Combine Slime Block with honey blocks, which do not stick to slime, to build flying machines and elevators.

Important

Slime Blocks and Honey Blocks never stick to each other, and neither sticks to obsidian or bedrock — this separation is what makes multi-stage flying machines possible.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make a Slime Block?

Place nine slimeballs across the full 3×3 crafting grid to craft one Slime Block. The recipe is reversible, so one Slime Block converts back into nine slimeballs.

Do you take fall damage on a Slime Block?

No. Landing on a Slime Block negates all fall damage and bounces you to about 60% of your fall height, unless you sneak, which cancels the bounce entirely.

Why don't slime blocks stick to honey blocks?

Slime Blocks and Honey Blocks are deliberately non-adhesive to each other, letting redstone builders separate moving sections — a behavior essential to flying machines.

Where do slimeballs come from?

Slimeballs drop from Slimes that spawn in slime chunks below Y=40 and in swamp biomes, and they can also be gathered when baby pandas sneeze.

Are slime blocks transparent?

Slime Blocks are translucent green and do not fully block light, yet they are solid enough to walk on and to be pushed by pistons.
