Redstone Repeater
Repeater extends and delays redstone signals by one to four ticks — the cornerstone of timing control in any circuit.
Description
Right-clicking the device cycles the delay through four positions, indicated by the second torch's distance from the front. A second repeater placed sideways into the input acts as a lock, freezing whatever signal is currently latched — the simplest way to build a memory cell. These three behaviours combined make the component the most-used non-dust component in advanced redstone engineering.
Redstone Guide
How to use a Redstone Repeater in Minecraft
-
1
Craft the repeater
Fill the bottom row of the crafting grid with three stone, place a redstone torch on each side of the middle row, and put one redstone dust between them to make one Redstone Repeater.
-
2
Place it facing forward
Set the Redstone Repeater on a solid block so the arrow on top points away from the power source; the device only passes current in the direction of that arrow.
-
3
Set the delay
Right-click the Redstone Repeater to cycle the delay through 1, 2, 3, and 4 ticks (0.1-0.4 seconds); the movable torch slides further from the front with each click.
-
4
Boost a long wire
Drop a Redstone Repeater into a redstone line every 15 blocks to reset the signal back to full strength 15 and carry it across any distance.
Power a Redstone Repeater from the side with a second repeater or a comparator to lock it, freezing its output on or off — the basis of a simple one-bit memory cell.

Frequently asked questions
How do you craft a Redstone Repeater?
Place three stone in the bottom row, two redstone torches on the outer slots of the middle row, and one redstone dust in the center to craft one Redstone Repeater.
What does a Redstone Repeater do?
A Redstone Repeater repeats a signal back to full strength 15, adds an adjustable 1-4 tick delay, and only lets current flow in one direction.
How long is a repeater tick?
One repeater tick equals 0.1 seconds (two game ticks), so the maximum four-tick setting delays a signal by 0.4 seconds.
Does a Redstone Repeater work in both Java and Bedrock?
Yes. The Redstone Repeater behaves the same in Java and Bedrock Edition, including the 1-4 tick delay and the side-locking feature.
Can a repeater turn a signal around a corner?
No. A Redstone Repeater only outputs straight ahead; to turn a signal, run redstone dust out of the front and bend the dust around the corner.
